Wayne Rooney has been suspended for two matches and fined £2,400 by Fifa following his red card against Portugal in the World Cup quarter-final.
Fair or harsh?

He should have headbutted Ronaldo, that's only a one match ban isn't it.

fair, it's not like the money will affect his bank balance and a 2 game ban is the least he could of expected really

He'll miss only easy qualifying games against Macedonia and Andorra so its not harsh. If he was to miss Croatia or Russia games England would be in trouble.

Forget the 2 game ban.

The fine is quite hefty.
Can Rooney afford to pay that with his own money?

I think Rooney has suffered the biggest punishment you could give a player for a foul - a red card in the World Cup. Two game ban is fine as it will give McClaren the chance too show us whether he is a Sven in disguise or pick two out and out stikers and show some postive thinking. Bent & Defoe to start the campaign?

FFS where did we cheat against England? Did the referee award a free kick for us for diving? NO! He actually gave a yellow card to Carvalho for a non existing foul. Where did Portugal cheat against England?
We were luckier in the penalties... No cheating there!! Maybe all this talk is just to cover this

Rooney should have had a 5 game ban and a suspension!!!

why?

but anything i say wont change your attitude will it!

u probally support a team that diving/gamesmanship is part of the culture,

so its hypocritical to suggest that its wrong for a player to get away with something lightly

not saying rooney got away with anything though!

Great Stuff ... Maybe it'll give the players confidence in their OWN abilities + Ashton/Bent/Defoe might be able to show their worth

"Rooney said he didn't mean to"

Go watch the video and make your own mind instead of taking his word as gold, its clear as day it was intentional.

Have to say that the fine is pretty meaningless. Irrespective of the fact that it is Rooney, £2,400 to any of these well-paid players is pretty laughable.

Because the referee 'dealt with the incident at the time', Figo's (albeit pathetic but nevertheless witnessed by millions of people) headbutt receives no further action. Rooney's stamp gets a 2 match ban and a pathetic fine. FIFA shows itself to be the spineless orgainization that we all know it is.

how can rooney get a two game ban for an accidental stamp yet figo gets away on a technicallity for intentionally headbutting someone?
