So Italy clinch a place in the World Cup final with classy late goals.

Were they worthy of their win? Is the tournament any the worse for the loss of the hosts?

Give your thoughts on the game.

Italy deserved it.Cannavaro was it his very best Germany screwed up big time. Its a shame. I'll be rooting for France now and Italy has a horrible record against France.

Excellent match, best match of this World Cup.

Great play by both teams, but Italy deserved it in the end. After the unlucky exit last world cup, the italians deserved it.

How can anyone be sad about England's defeat having watched this game. This was beautiful football, beautiful passing, beautiful goals. England had none except Joe Cole's.

I missed lost too. Well worth it. I think my voice has gone after screaming the house down when Grosso's goal went in.

The best game of football I have ever watched. I would've been proud even if we'd lost on penalties (as I was starting to expect). Now we have to make up for the heartbreak of 1994, 1998 and 2000.

Forza Italia. Forza Azzurri.

It was great to see the Italians holding onto the ball so effectively despite the close attention of the Germans, why can't England hold onto the ball the same way?

they upset all the pre match predictions, survived the home crowd, beat germany again, and are sitting in another final, 12 years later!

Italy tore Germany to shreds while Germany were hoping to squeeze through on penalties again. Two world class goals and hit the woodwork twice. And as for all the English saddos with their "We'll support Germany because they're fair like us" tripe, get a life - Germans were falling all over the place in the first few minutes. Italy - one booking. Germany - two.
End of story.
Class wins.

It was good to see Italy doing what they do best. And doing it well. The Italian substitutions made a crucial difference, as the German defence could only trot at te end.

Nice to see 2 teams actually trying to win the game. Great match and the best team won. I just hope Italy play with the same attitude in the final ( which will be against Portugal - France won't produce another performance like the last one)

The referee was incredibly savvy, and saw through nearly each and every attempt to either commit fouls on the sly or to dive and create a 'foul', with the notable exception of Ballack's elbow. Too bad we probably won't have him again.

And Italy got through with two beautiful, clean winners with nary a lick of controversy about them.

Decent match with an amazing finale.

Cracking game and played in the right spirit (blah, blah...) I think the hosts being involved probably helped - hope the Italians can keep up the good work in the final...

Both teams were brave in extra time going for the winners, especially the Germans when you consider pens probably would have suited them down to the ground.

And what winners from the Italians! Lovely moves, and a fitting end to the night. Best game from the knockout phase, period.

Absolute classic, delighted for the azzurri. They deserved it. Anyone notice how the german tv never shows replays of any dodgy tackle they make etc in all the matches!!!

Germany was cheated before the match (Frings).
Germany was cheated during the match(Hand ball).
Italy was outplayed 75% of the match and won by a lucky kick that curved at just the right moment. He wasn't even looking at the goal, just fired away-- total luck.

---------------

I predicted all of this before the match when we heard of Frings suspension yet heinz who was seen throwing several punches at different people was not only not punished, he wasn't even being investigated!
