Actually, anyone else notice how lucky Ricardo was with his guesses? Every time correct - had he guessed right 50% of the time England would be rightly in the semis now. Still, that's the lottery of penalties.

"This world cup for England has been a disgrace, and the manager is to blame."

The players were heroic with 10 men.

Hargreaves deserves a knighthood. For playing despite the boos in the past, and for playing like life wasn't worth living (without a bit of passion) today.

Yes I blame Sven. But what about the men that put (and kept) him in office?

Fresh start now. Oh yeah.....Mclaren. :-(

It's not so much of a lottery when your guys telegraph where they're placing the ball. Portugal's penalties where far better.

Fair enough! But, no credit? C'mon, doesn't he deserve a little, teeny-tiny, ittty-bitty bit? :)

England will never win the World CUp again unless we can find a top class manager.

Please, please, bring in Arsene Wenger (or Hiddink or Scolari) after McClaren fouls up Euro 2008 (if we even get there).

I think sven was to blame today! it was 'NOW OR NEVER' for Englands World Cup dreams.

He coached england for the money (5million).

SVEN GORAN ERICKSON IS TO BLAME.

The players clearly lacked confidence - don't know if that's in the manager, the system, the rest of their team or something else - this is SGE's biggest failure.

Yes and for the following reasons:

1 for never settling on a definite team.
2 for bring players who he knew would never play
3 for playing players out of position
4 for playing David Beckham when he did not deserve to play
5 clearly who ever suggested Frank Lampard take the first peno needs a rest from football he had a teribble world cup

As for Rooney being sent off it was I think harsh but the behaviour of CR was not something to be proud of. However Rooney needs to watch his temper.

I think his overall record isn't great but it's certainly not poor. We had 2 penalty claims turned down and an idiot left us playing with 10 men. Hardly Sven's fault.

He was given the job because NO English manager was considered good enough at the time and I think that was the right decision. So we've been clambouring for a successful club manager. Well remember what a popular appointment Don Revie was but he presided over the worst period of English football history.

I think McClaren is the best of a poor bunch of what's available.

There, I put it in myself to save time. They couldn't print what I think about Sven.

I think that the English FA appoint the wrong manager time after time after time.

There lies the problem.

Erickson should be sued for every penny he's ripped us off for. Thanks to his loyalty to average players at int'l level i.e. beckham, lampard, jenas, crouch etc...we never had a chance. I hope defoe, bent, AJ, swp are killing themselves laughing.
P.S. Well done hargreaves!!!!!

If you think Sven is negative, wait until Steve McClaren gets settled behind the desk.
Caution is his middle name as he thinks 0-0 is 'an admirable and fantastic point won'.
Who do you think has been the dominant force behind the current England team selection and approach for the past couple of years?
Ask your average Boro fan how bad they feel about loosing him.

Totally agree, the fools who employed him should be in the Tower. If this side is better than any since 1966 I will pay my community charge !! :-0

Of course eriksson is to blame - poor squad selection, poor team selection, negative tactical template and woeful, overly negative subtitutions.

Also we need to accept that several of our "world class" players that many in our media and most of the proles on this site harp on about are simply not up there with the trully gifted players in the world. I'm talking of Lampard, Owen and Beckham and to a lesser extent Gerrard (great engine, great athlete, nice enough technique but lacks the guile to shape a match). If we keep over-hyping distinctly average players (at international level that is) then we will constantly select tenchincally limited tactically dim players and produce these insipid skill-free performances.

The judgement of so many english fans, press and so-called experts has trully been shown up for what it is by the england players' showings at this world cup. Hang your heads in shame and listen to some of us "nay-sayers" more in future and you might end up with a team to be proud of, that plays decent football and might even compete at the sharp end of tournaments. You have been told!
