Probably a surprising result for most, what did you make of the performance of the teams especially Saudi Arabia’s goalkeeper’s form and the increase in Saudi attacks and chances towards the end of the match?
Can Spain do well in the World Cup from this performance? How will they fare in the second round against any of the teams from Group G?

Damaris, please let me speak in real time!!! No real suprise, apart from maybe the fact that it was just the one goal. You aren't going to see the best of sides until the knockout stages so lets wait and see if Spain muck up again this year!?

Exactly, it was the B team, and even THEY wanted to go back to the hotel and concentrate on the next match.

At least the Saudis showed up and played decently - so we can finally get rid of the bigots who don't think Asian teams should be in the WC. Don't put much into this match - Spain got the goal and took the rest of the day off!

This result proves that Spain can afford to play their second string and still win thus saving their best players for the more important games to come.
Do you think Sven could have afforded to do the same against Sweden....? probably not
It means now that Spain's first team will play one game less than England and given the enery sapping heat that could prove crucial in the later stages.

To be fair to Sven, we didn't want to be facing Germany in the next round so didn't have the luxury of fielding an understrength team.

Do you think its fair to compare Sweeden to SA? Could Spain afford to rest all their players against Sweeden?

An England team without Gerrard is an understrength team. Plus, we were furthered weakened by the arrival of Campbell the cart-horse!

Spain could have played better surely!!
Remember Ireland won Saudi Arabia 4-0 in 2002 and Germany beat them 8-0 in their first match???

I wonder if Spain's next match will be against France....
Yes, Spain are one of only four teams to have won all their matches to date, and yes France have struggled, but Spain tend to choke at the knockout stage. We could see France (if they get thru!) pull off an upset.

Spain are gonna under-achieve as usual and got knocked out in the 2nd round.Saudi's deserved a penalty and Spain were pretty lucky to come away with a win all they dominated the first-half but in the second half it was mostly Saudi Arabia who deserved the penalty which defintely wasn't a dive.I think the reffing wasn't good in this game not horrible but defintely not good.Spain deserved another goal thought since they played really well but the Saudi goalie did well

None of the other teams who qualifed for the second round after winning their second group match played their best team in the third match apart from England. If Sven had greater confidence in the stength of his squad he would have rotated his players more.

Didn't watch either of these games but when the Ukraine v Tunisia was half time it showed the highlights of S.Arabia v Spain and Spain rested their whole team and were very good, especially Reyes and the Arabian keeper. Yes, I think they will do well either S.Korea,France or Switzerland next.
