Possibly the most controversial match of the tournament - what did you make of the performance of the teams and the referee? Did the best team progress? How will Australia fare against Italy?
Give your thoughts here.

I find it hilarious that people have been attacking FIFA for allowing referees from small nations to ref in the world cup.
Well today you had a ref from the Premiership, and what a farce. He lost it completely. What a joke!!

Did the best team progress?
LOL two of the most technically gifted sides in the World have been knocked out of the World Cup today.
This is Football's darkest day, rubbed in with Kewell's winner clearly being offside.

Sadly stuck at work and haven't access to digital here so had to watch the Brazil vs Japan match, sounds like Aus vs Cro would have been better.
Can I just say congrats to the Aussies, mission accomplished in getting results against Japan and Croatia. From what I've seen you've deserved to get through.

I don't think Poll had a horror game. It was one of those grudge matches. After all 7 of Australian squads are Croatia decendents (including Viduka), and 2 players in Croatia starting squads were born in Australia. Also considering what was at stake. I don't think Croatia should complain. It could have been couple more goals for Australia, including last one by Cahill.

Personally I am looking forward to Graham Poll being banished from the World Cup almost as much as I am to the rest of the tournament.
I counted no less than four poor decisions (including Kewell's goal being offside although in fairness that is the linesman's mistake).
Australia were denied two clear penalties and the three yellow cards was the icing on the cake.
He has to be thrown out for that and it is as much as he deserves - he is a poor ref who has a larger ego than a lot of the players he is charged with reffing (and that is saying something) and I have no idea how he was selected in the first place.

Hard to tell on broadband but it looked the best game and the worst refereeing of the tournament. Not sure who is the greatest sinner, Poll or whoever decided that a dead rubber should be on BBC1 instead of this.
Always thought the Aussies could come back, Croatia needed to get 2 ahead.

Graham Poll was terrible today, a disastrous performance with an awful amount of mistakes. I'm afraid it was his last appearance at this World Cup. He should stick by the standard of striktness which he applies in Premiership games because today he has simply lost the plot giving away silly yellow cards left right and centre. Not awarding a couple of blatant penalties was just the icing on the cake. FIFA is destroying the beauty of the game and it is the obvious consequence that referees are public enemies of everybody because refereeing like that is unaccaptable by any standards.

Croatia, technically gifted? They were just as brutal and physical as Australia were (and are)! Which, incidentally, made for fantastic TV. Poll had an alright game - let it flow - until the last ten minutes when he seemed to have a very specific attack of insanity. Three yellow cards? Well done to the Aussies for making it through, and good luck vs Italy.

"LOL two of the most technically gifted sides in the World have been knocked out of the World Cup today."
Blah Blah Blah, do you have any other argument. If they were so technically gifted and brilliant they would have easily won their games and been through to the next round! The fact that they didn't means that they were difficient in some department, possibly effort, possibly heart, possibly skill, but all-round they just weren't good enough! Australia deserved it. Croatia weren't good enough!

1. FIFA allowed Kewell to play this match after the report of his insults on German ref. 2. Kewell was offside but goal was allowed and Croatia out... Kewell is a lucky man!?

You mean Czech and Japan/USA? Croatia is god awful team. I would put them right next to Paraguay in terms of quality.
