Morning all,
It should be confirmed later today that Michael Owen will miss the rest of the World Cup.
We're putting together a piece for the site on where England go from here without Owen - and we want your views.
Can a Crouch-Rooney partnership work? Is it time to change the system? Tell us what you'd do.
Personally, I feel this is an ideal opportunity to switch to a 4-1-4-1, giving us the anchor midfielder many have been saying we need and allowing our attacking midfielders - the real strength of this England side - to push forward.

Good riddance...
Hang on.. erm. who else have we got? A kid with 'potential' who is too scared to play. A 6ft 7 ex aston villa reject who cant head the ball and takes about 1 in 10 chances.
Rooney the genius.
Our chances are gone and we know who to blame..

In my opinion it's what England need. Forget Owen, he was never fit or in form anyway. We can still win this!

Poor Owen Should never have gone, Taking 1 half fit person in rooney was enough taking 2 was asking for trouble. Personally I'd be happy if crouch was dropped he's terrible for someone of his height why can't he jump? Spends half his time on peoples backs in the wrong place or messing good chances up. Sven should play walcott and rooney upfront why take the poor lad if he isn't going to play the lad. Poor Bent and defoe if walcott don't play a right kick in the teeth for all the players that wanted to go but couldn't. 3 real boring games so far Fingers crossed we get much better

What it does is leave us with 1 unfit striker 1 striker who is very inexprerianced and Crouch.
So well done sven, i mean what are jenas and carrick there for? to put the cones out in the morning?
We can't play someone behind rooney as that ruins his game, he likes to drop off, so it has to be rooney and crouch!

Sorry to say this is a blessing is disguise. Michael has looked extremely poor in all outings thus far. I don't think Crouch and Rooney will work, I'd go 4-5-1 will WR as lone striker, hHargreaves or Carrick sitting, with cole, lamps and Sg bombing forward with the Roonster. If it doesn't work, we can bring on Crouch for Rooney, and if we have to, throw in Theo too.

Steven Gerrard...
what a star (I'm not a liverpool fan...)
feel sorry for walcott, defoe and bent, but Stevie G can play second striker, if rooney is tiring or if the chosen formation doesn't suit crouch...
one striker should be enough when we've got goals aplenty in midfield.. Joe Cole, Gerrard, Lampard, and of course Becks if he gets the opportunity...
Lennon would add another dimension, but can we either scrifice becks or play him at RB..??
much better first half last night... good tempo, good determination... we need to be able to sustain that for 90 minutes, or score more than one before the break..!!

I agree that the only way we have a slight chance in going further in the WC is with the following team:
Robinson
G Neville - Terry - Ferdinand - A Cole
Hargreaves
Lennon - Lampard - Gerrard - J Cole
Rooney
Of course one or two of the above players may miss next match but this formation is designed to get Lennon and Joe supporting Rooney out wide whilst Stevie G can bomb on - you can basically replace Lamps with Beckham if you like and still keep this team - personally I think both should be dropped!

You think we should play Rooney up front on his own? Are you all mad. Rooney HAS to play up front with someone, he is at his most dangerous when he is dropping off the other striker.
We have to drop Lampard, keep Crouch in the waste of space but tell him to stop up front and stop dropping deep, he aint no play maker.

This is the same player who has scored more than owen and rooney so far and has troubled all three teams.
I agree with allardyce Crouch is our best weapon at the moment because he is fit and full of confidence.

I have no idea what Sven sees in Crouch, he was totally useless again when he came on against Sweden, Sven has made a serious mistake by not taking Bent or Defoe, why did he take young Walcott if he is left on the bench. Utter nonsense and with that useless article McLaren in charge after the WC I can see no hope for the future.

We should play a 4-4-2, With Gerrard as a attacking mid, then hargreaves sitting and breaking things up. We cant play Crouch, he ruins are play, not his fault, its the other players. Hes not so bad himself. So it has to be Rooney(he obviously wants to play) and Walcott upfront. Why aim set-peices at a player who isnt even that good in the air, when we have Terry and Ferdinand?

i don't think Owen will be a big miss at all.. he wasn't on form anyway, he wasn't scoring goals.. if he was a Miroslav Klose or Fernando Torres then i would be concerned, but really there is nothing that England will miss.. in fact the team functioned without him anyway..
the most important player for England now is Wayne Rooney.. he did offer the spark that England missed in recent games..
(please reply to my opinion below) England should depend on goals to come from the midfield, coz the game nowadays has become more attack-oriented and goals from midfielders are more common and more important.. it's become more of a team effort.. Gerrard has got 2 from 3, Lampard will score soon don't worry, and Joe Cole can fire in a few quality goals..
Hargreaves should play in that holding role which Makelele fills v well for Chelsea.. that'll allow Lampard, Gerrard to join Joe Cole and Beckham in attack..

We're NOT going to get the best out of every single English player - when is everyone going to realise that?! - but we CAN put together an actual cohesive team that brings many qualities and strengths to the table.
Crouch is good for the last 20 minutes but NOT to start - if we don't get the 100% best out of Rooney then so be it as long as the midfield is strong we still have a slight chance.
Why can't people accept this?

No I don't agree that our chance has gone, it is simple either play theo or go to the new phenonenom that has served alot of teams right, the 4-3-3.
We have players that can easily fit into that system and regularly do. I can think of at least 6 players, Lampard, Gerrard, joe cole, Rooney, Crouch, Terry and Carragher. These players know the system inside out and it might improve our performances. Also ashley cole has looked crap, he has to sought himself out, Best left back in the world, what a load of rubbish. My 11 would be
Robinson Carragher Ferdinand Terry Bridge
Carrick Lampard Gerrard Rooney(or lennon) Joe cole Crouch(rooney)

Sven can't do anything worse, So i say play walcott with rooney upfront. Send crouch back to england making it clear never to play for england again. Think people were a bit hard on owen he hasn't hardly played this year of course he isn't going ot be his oldself blame Sven for his hopeless choices. i just hope our England Manager is better

Everyone seems to be suggesting this 4141 system. Venables picked the same team in the Sunday paper but described it as 433. I think Tony Gale had it in the Sun earlier this week too. If I remember correctly we played this team in one of the qualifying games (I think it was Northern Ireland) and it didn't work out that well. Do you think Erikkson will have the guts to try it again?

Gerrard must play as a second striker behind rooney if we are going to make an impact at this world cup.
