Switzerland leave it late to wrap up a 2-0 win over Togo and now lead the group. Was it a deserved win or should Togo at least have had one penalty in the first half? Your views on the match please.

I'm glad they are out. The world cup is a fesitival of football not a political stage. It's not about how much money you should get paid, its a chance to represent your country!!!!

I think Togo’s players were right to threaten a boycott, and definitely shouldn’t be emotionally-blackmailed into playing without being paid.
The reason why countries compete to host the WC finals is simple: money. The reason why the best players are paid such large amounts is simple – the fans keep buying replica shirts and Sky subscriptions and everything else. If football wasn’t so lucrative, then there’d be no way this-or-that player would be earning 100K a week.
The players deserve an appropriate share of the money, it’s their commercial value. The fact that Togo is a desperately poor country only gives them more justification. If they’d been offered a sum of money for playing, and it’s not been paid, where’s it gone? If you don’t protest, and don’t use whatever weapons are in your armoury, people who want to rip you off will just walk all over you.
Anyone remember when Roy Keane upgraded the seats for his Republic of Ireland team-mates on a flight to an international match? There was a lot of shite thrown around then about how short of money the Irish FA were. Turned out that, while the players had been booked in Economy Class, a dozen or so Irish FA officials were sitting in Business Class!

Remember Italy's group in Euro 2004 with the 2-2 draw "played out" between Denmark and Sweden?
Can the same thing happen this time round to France if Switzerland and South Korea "arrange" for it to happen?
Or does it just come down to good old Goal Difference?

Its gonna be an interesting final round of games in this group now: could end up 3 teams all finishing on 5 points. How do they work out who qualifies in such an instance? goal difference or goals scored?

Blatant Togo penalty turned down, the same happened to Ivory Coast against the Dutch and to Ghana against Italy. Seems African teams are playing against their opponents AND the referees.

Switzerland's victory makes it interesting for France! If South Korea and Switzerland play to a draw next game, France will have to win by at least two goals to qualify over South Korea. Should be interesting!

i'm not saying they shouldn't get paid and they were offered handsome sums of money in relation to the average annual income of the country they live in but they were holding out for fortunes! They wanted to go home kings. I'm sure a lot of players would have played for free. Its an honour to represent thier country something that they need reminding of because they certainly forgot that

France does have to win by more than 1 goal to qualify. So they'll theorically be in the next round.

The best team lost, but it was their own fault - the Swiss gave the ball away cheaply, and Togo made good moves, but they failed because:
1) Adebayor hogged the ball too much 2) There was NOT enough support from the team 3) They were reluctant to pass it wide 4) They did not execute the shots 5) The ref turned down a cast-iron penno
Adebayor is the next Henry because he is an arrogant **** who is talented, but wants to rule the show.....and the media STILL love him!
If it werent for the pay-dispute scandal which demoralised the team, then they would have won one of their games by now! But, considering the circumstances, they did quite well

Crucial 2nd goal for the Swiss. This means a draw will guarantee their spot in the 2nd Round.
A 2 goal win will be enough for the French, 4 years ago they were in exactly the same position in needing to beat Denmark by 2 in their last game. Somehow i think Togo might prove easier to achieve this against than the Danes.
South Korea have to win, assuming France do what they require.

So tell me if someone promises you £100000 and after the tournament youre told to get lost what would you say..
Togolese players know that if they dont get their money before all 3 matches are played, they could as well kiss the money good bye

" I'm sure a lot of players would have played for free."
So am I. I'd play for England for free (although I'd want to retain my image rights). I'd even play for Scotland for free!
But then England wouldn't get to the World Cup finals, would they? And the FA officials wouldn't have any money to argue about, would they?
However you look at it, the players feel they're being cheated, a normal human reaction, and they have every right to exercise whatever bargaining power they have.
