And England exhales... Have a feeling that that performance won't have inspired total confidence in England supporters? Other than the win and Gerrard's finish, what parts of the game went well and what do you think they still need to work on?

Unimpressed with what was supposed to be a World Cup favorite. They absolutely struggled to beat freakin' Trinidad. Trinidad!

I would be very afraid of getting humiliated in the next round.

Boring, boring, boring.

They will be defeated by Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Ivory Coast, The Czechs. No chance whatsoever! Even Equador will be quite a hurdle.

Lampard must be dropped to benefit Gerrard.

Simple as.

Gerrard roams the pitch better, has better and more intelligent short and long passing, more dangerous dribbling with the ball, and is far far quicker with greater technique.

Gerrard supports every attacking position when given license to roam like he does with Liverpool, the reason the ball wont stick up front is simple, lampard cant support the attack.

At liverpool gerrard plays on the point of a triangle and is given the sole responsibility of supporting the striker and left and right wingers, he makes runs and finds space to benefit the man on the ball always.

Lampard at chelsea makes one run like he does for england, from the centre circle straight at the box. at chelsea essien will do the scrub work and the effort is exerted from the ghanian to allow lampard to find space to shoot with that one run.

Lampard can do one thing better than gerrard. shoot from a stationary position, nothing more.

And england are suffering as a result, rooney makes up for this of course, but just imagine Gerrard and rooney both being allowed to play as they do for their clubs for england.

Lampard is a hinderance in our england side, and dont talk to me about goals because gerrard has always played defensively for england because lampard is incapable of reading the game and tackling, and distributing quickly.

I think England played extremely well...I mean some 65 percent ball possession thru out the game..that happens like once in a bluemoon.

The subs really won the game.

TnT were going for a draw from the start and their defense would annoy any team in the world.

I will stick with ma original prediction..Eng to win this group with a full 9 pts. great game ok

Rooney's return. Looked good for someone who's not played and had a broken foot for the last 6 weeks. We looked a totally different team after the first 2 substitutions, and it wasn't a question of "if" we scored but "when"

BELIEVE!

I think T & T did really really well at defending.

But i had my heart in my mouth when it got to 80 mins and we had nothing to show.
It was just one of them games that was going to be heart breaking

Now we just need sweeden to draw tonite and T&T To win their next. Because i think england should be able to scrap a win against sweeden.

But with what england has shown so far we still has tons of work to do. I think semi is all we will go for

What a move breingin Lennon on - he played excellently, and his lay off to Beckham for the cross was immense!!!

I agree, good post Jack Bauer

as I said in the other thread, its frustrating being an England supporter because we only JUST do enough to win.

Well, one thing's for sure, Sven; you gotta stop playing Gerrard & Lampard together like that. Drop one or the other (sorry, but it'll create competition for the place), and bring in someone like Carrick to hold the play & sit in midfield. Our problem for so long was we just didn't hold the ball - Ferdinand & Gerrard went for the killer ball every time. Beckham lazy, as usual - there was a time on 72 mins when a decent offence could have punished us and he just gave up. Right result, laboured & VERY predictable though. Shouldn't have needed Rooney.

I believe in the last 60 minutes, we showed what we are all about. We got rid of the long balls, and Stevie G played a more attacking role. I felt that Sven made 2 brilliant subs ironically, both Lennon and Rooney put pressure on immidiately, witt Lennon being a part of the 1st goal. Certainly a far better performance than our first match, and I believe it will fill the squad and fans with much needed confidence. Well played boys!

Embarrassing, boring, predictable and just out and out ordinary.

We won't be missed!

That was my verdict winkeye

10 mins later.....Footballs coming home. Lovely jubbly smiley

Congrats to T&T btw, they gave everything, and i actually found myself kinda cheering for them at one point. Call me a traitor if you like but We were a dsigrace until the last 25mins.

Just have to pick up the pace, that's all.

What's up with Ashley Cole? He's not even close to his top form.

"It took the introduction of Wayne Rooney to galvanise England's attack against a spirited Trinidad outfit." who are you kidding BBC, he was nowhere near his best. did some good stuff but wasnt all that great. if anything it was Lennon who pushed us on.
