There was an emergency meeting of the Real Madrid directors this evening and the first reports were that Lopez Caro was going to be sacked but in the last ten minutes the reports are that Florentino Perez is resigning and Ramon Martinez will take over until elections can be held.

Is this good news for Madrid fans?

is there any truth to this.
in some ways it's great but it came at the wrong time.
2-3 years ago i would be for it,but this year he tried to do the right things by letting the coaches alone and letting them buy for themselves.

It's a huge distraction at a critical point in the season. Only time will tell if it is going to be good for the club or not.

And Fernando Martin (not Ramon Martinez in the end) is interim president until then.

His biggest problem was that he ran out of ideas after Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, and Beckham. In the last two years there has been no direction in terms of the signings, the managers, etc.

The summer of 2004, precisely the summer when Florentino was re-elected, is the moment where it all went wrong.

First, Perez brings in Camacho. Camacho refuses to sell Roberto Carlos to Chelsea who allegedly was offering 20 m. euros. We fail to sign Vieira because we weren't willing to match Vieira contract demands. Instead we sign Samuel (who occupied a non-EU place, thereby preventing us from bring Eto'o back from Mallorca), Woodgate (who has still played less than 20 matches two years later, and Owen whose most meaningful contribution to Real Madrid was the 20 m. we received from his sale. Camacho resigns beginning the insane managerial carrousel, etc, etc, etc, etc

a good thing he has left is that the next president only has to worry about sports problem because we are very wealthy so the next should be focused on making a longterm plan.
