Afternoon everyone. Sven-Goran Eriksson has named his provisional squad to take to this summer's World Cup and there are quite a few surprises in it. Here it is in full: Robinson, James, Green; G Neville, R Ferdinand, Terry, A Cole, Campbell, Carragher, Bridge; Beckham, Carrick, Lampard, Gerrard, Hargreaves, Jenas, Downing, J Cole, Lennon; Rooney, Owen, Crouch, Walcott. Read more here: news.bbc.co.uk/sport...Do you agree with the inclusion of Downing, Lennon, Hargreaves and Walcott ahead of the likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ledley King, Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent? Your thoughts on the squad please.

I must say, it does have some alternative choices...but lets not forget it is only provisional...I would like to see Andy Johnson or Bent being given chances internationally.

I'm a charlton fan so I'm biased, but Bent not even on the standby list I think that is an insult really

I think for once Sven has taken a chance - and lets face it - if we know next to nothing about Theo Walcott then opposition players in Germany are going to know even less. Id rather have seen another striker instead of Owen Hargreaves, but overall I think its a good squad.

Walcott is a gamble, lets not forget he has never played a premiership match and he's only 17. Its a bit of a smack in the face for Bent and Defoe.

Strange only picking 4 forwards. Could have got rid of Hargreaves/Jenas and included defoe.
Apart from that it could be interesting, especially with the exclusion of SWP. Means his golden boy beckham will keep the right midfield slot.

bye bye world cup! why take walcott over bent, the highest scoring englishman in the premier league this season? only 4 strikers, 2 of which are injured and not even 50-50 to play!

Agree with it all except jenas and walcott.
hargreaves is a good defensive midfielder who can also cover at full back and has been on form for bayern.
downing is a classic winger, who is left footed, exactly what we need.
jenas should be replaced by young so we have cover at RB.
walcott is a gamble. he is either going to be brilliant or woeful. too risky for me. would have preferred to see Darren Bent.

This is a total mess up in the squad!!
How can you have hargreaves over shaugh wright phillips!
Then the strikers are a poor choice. only 4 strikers and two of which are injured, so we will need to rely on crouch and someone who hasnt played a game this season....... Bent and defoe should have been in to give cover to rooney and owen
Well done sven we need a minor miracle now

Walcott is the world cup squad...
Bit of a gamble by sven....
Maybe looking for an option on the left to cover Joe Cole moving into Rooney's roll!
Could be a good shout!
Leadfeet king and defoe are useless..... pleased they have been left out..

How can he take walcott, who hasnt even played for arsenal, and only played half a season in the championship and yet ommit defoe, johnson and bent all of whom have scored lots of goals at all levels. Lennon instead of SWP is a joke, and owen (never does anything) hargreves instead of ledley king is rubbish too. I think Erikson's mind is already in Madrid or wherever it is he will end up. This squad has got some glaring errors in it

This is the most ludicrous squad I’ve ever seen from an England manager.
He’s only taking four strikers, but two of them aren’t even fit. One of them has never played in the Premier League and the other isn’t exactly prolific. He knows he’s taking a huge gamble with both Owen and Rooney and yet then only takes two other strikers. Baffling.
How Owen Hargreaves keeps getting a place is beyond me. If he isn’t going to take King because of his injury, why take Jenas? If he isn’t going to take SWP because he hasn’t played enough games, why take Walcott? There are stupid, reckless decisions right the way through the squad with double standards all the way through it.
Any chance England had in the World Cup has now gone. I’m sure the Scots and Welsh are rolling around on the floor laughing at that.

Owen Hargreaves is included for his ability to play badly in any position.
SWP should of stayed at Man City.
Robbie Fowler should of been on standby.
Sol Campbell is finished as a player.
David James is a clown.
Jamie Carragher MUST start ahead of Rio.
Jermaine Defoe will replace Rooney.
Wayne Bridge is one lucky clown.
Stevie G will bring home the cup.

I really like it, its bold and imaginative. If england are to win the world cup we need flair on the bench and I think we have that here. The only change I would make is to drop Jenas and have another striker, maybe Defoe or Ashton. Come On England!!
