Looks like Wigan have agreed to sell Ellington to West Brom for 3 million pounds as per BBC1 today. That going to make the job even harder for Wigan to stay up now.

I dont know what happened to the rumours that there was a possible exchange with Earnshaw in the pipeline? that seems to have died a death now . . . all I can say is that Whelan has allowed Ellington to go how can he want to stay in this division as much as he says it does, ok he keeps saying he wont be held to ransom but FFS weve offloaded possibly our best striker to a relegation rival!!!!!! hardly the actions of an astute businessman, Im really hoping weve got somebody else lined up in the wings.... time will tell

They couldn't help it though. He had a minimum fee release clause. Which means if a team offers above the minimum fee then the player is free to talk to the team.

can't believe he's gone, doesn't seem like much of a step up for him. very strange choice...i'll laugh if WBA go down this season and the Latics stay up!!

It seems a strange choice.

If I was a club and was going to pay £3million, I'd go to someone with a track record in the Prem.

If I was Ellington, I wouldn't quit one relegation prospect for another, it would seem the next logical step would be to go to somewhere who might be pushing for a European place.

And I for one hope that West Brom get relgated and Wigan stay up!

me 2, people talk of teale being hot and cold though when ellington is cold more than hot. he scores a few goals then might as well not be in the team 4 the next 10 games. he will do noting in the prem without JR

Good to know it's not only us with these brain-meltingly bad decisions, i.e. De Zoooo going back to you guys and Hislop to West Ham - that's a lot of experience lost. Best of luck anyhow.

The Duke needs a big strong centre forward to play off - not little earnie!

BTW, the duke has missed most of pre-season with his shoulder operation so it may take him a little time to break into your starting 11.

3mill!!!! Jewell will spend it wisely...and i mean come one he didn't even play against chelsea and look how good you guys were!!! Camara had a very good game and i recon that the money you got will be able to keep you guys up...even before the chelsea game in my eyes you could stay up woth ease and the chelsea game confirmed this!!! Be positive...life after ellington is good!!!!

DAVE WHELAN HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO LET ELLINGTON GO DUE TO A CLAUSE IN HIS CONTRACT. IT'S THE DUKE WHO I THINK IS MAKING A MISTAKE AS I FEEL THE LATICS HAVE A BETTER SQUAD THAN WEST BROM. JUST TO THINK I WAS GLAD WHEN ALBION STAYED UP LAST SEASON, NOW I HOPE THEY MAKE A SWIFT RETURN TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP. BAGGIES FOR RELEGATION. DEAN ASHTON FOR LATICS.
