You need British players
Look at Chelsea and Liverpool, and Man U (when they used to be better than they are now)
Chelsea have Terry, Lampard, Cole, L'pool have Gerrard, and Man U used to have Beckham, Scholes, Giggs & Keane
It's the British based players that are making these clubs the success you are
Buying some secon rate eastern europeans will see you relegated
Like someone mentioned above think Hearts not Chelsea
you might also add duff there maybe, bridge, shaun wright phillips etc. and there's a few more decent liverpool players from britain, spurs have a few tooQuoted

Chelsea fan, are we? Carragher and Crouch at Liverpool are both English, while Finnan is Irish. They're all fairly decent. Carragher and Crouch, certainly. United "used to have" Beckham, Scholes, Giggs and Keane, yes. And, uh, United *still have* Scholes and Giggs. Not to mention Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Alan Smith, Darren Fletcher, Wayne Rooney, John O'Shea and the finest youth squad in the country - many of whom are British. I don't even know why I'm getting so frikkin' pedantic. Sorry. Forget I said anything.

Well, what a surprise this story is. Seriously this story has been kept quiet for a while now and is not the dream ticket everyone is prayin for. But it will mean our new ground will get built and the training facilities. But the next Chelsea !!!! come on be reasonable, this is Pompey, but what we have is the best supporters in the league, bar NONE. So someone with the money and love for the game has a fantastic opportunity to turn us into a bigger club, thats all our fans want anyway - a board to match our fans. PLAY UP POMPEY

£100m all in one-go sounds wrong to me, I think you are more likely to see slower investment maybe totaling over £100m over a number of seasons apparantly Pompey Village, Stadium, Training Ground, Youth Acadamy and all other facilities will be improved first of all along with some cash for spending on the squad.
Pompey in my opinion have a few players who would remain and maybe not first teamers but definatly squad players...
There is nothing wrong with Ashdown(GK), Dejan Stefanovic(CB), John Viafara(MID), Matt Taylor(DEF), Gary O'Neil(MID), Lomana Lua Lua(STK),Gary Silk(DEF).
£100M to spend on another 13 players isn't a great deal but you couldhave a squad like this:
Jamie Ashdown (GK) Robert Green(GK - Norwich)£5M Floyd Croll (GK - Wigan)£250K Neo Pamarot (DEF - Tottenham)£3M Wayne Bridge (DEF - Chelsea)£5M Phil Jageilka(DEF - Sheff Utd)£3M Dejan Stefanovic (DEF) Gary Silk (DEF) Matthew Taylor (DEF) John Viafara (MID) Gary O'Neill (MID) Sean Davis (MID - Tottenham)£3M Nigel Quashie (MID - Southampton)£2M David Prutton (MID - Southampton)£2M Kieran Richardson (MID - Man Utd)£4M Steve Sidwell (MID - Reading)£3.5M Bobby Convey (MID - Reading)£3.5M Dean Ashton (STK - Norwich) £6M Andy Johnson (STK - C.Palace)£6M Carlton Cole (STK - Chelsea)£4M Lomana LuaLua (STK)

I alway's thought Henry looked pretty good in a Pompey shirt.......... and he does like the supporters.......... and we can afford his wages now!!
At least if the deal goes through, we should be able to lay our hands on some real firepower! Heh-heh!

Take it from a long time Chelsea fan - you might see star players and silverware, but you'll watch your team lose its soul... It ain't worth it, man. Its not a dream, its a nightmare.

haha when i started this discussion i kind of thought i'd see pompey posters telling me about whats going on. I hadn't forseen the attack of the green eyed monster on all these bitchy fans from other teams, LOL.
Its all very well to say yes but look at pompey etc they will never sign players even if they can spend 100mil, but money talks.
if were taken over by an Abramovich type then the stadium is gonna be bigger and better, I imagine the training facilities, academy and all other aspects of the set up will be brought up to date. All these elements that might currently make us a less attractive club can all be sorted out with a bit of cash. The fact that we have the best fans in the country will then shine though.
I will believe all the takeover stuff and budgets when I see it actually happening, but you shouldnt under-estimate the power of money. I believe if all this does turn out to be true then Pompey will change massively

I like your idea but as happened with Chavski, you get the millions there and you want results NOW so you buy players who are good and experienced. Usually from abroad. People do not have patience, it's like being kids at xmas.
i dont think you will be that sucessful now come on. if players do come to your club, and they are very good, i reckon a european spot next season may be possible. u will not be challenging the big guns, but maybe you will reach the standards of bolton or tottenham, which would be gr8 for you all
Very fair and I wouldn't say no to that. We just need to invest in some quality British based young players AND some decent players with Prem experience, get a good blend. Hard workers!Quoted

As an avid pompey fan, my only hope is for once in Pompeys history we do have enough to buy a couple of really good players and not have to do what we usually do, and end up selling our best players.
Most of us are realists and know this talk of the new Chelsea is crap, we are Pompey, not a big London or big any other City side, but what we have is very special, the best fans in this Country bar none, christ after what we have been through for the last 50 plus years, struggling in the Premiership is a dream position, far better than struggling in the championship thats for sure.
Blimey, I dont know if I could cope if Pompey were not struggling and had money to spend, my poor old heart would find it strange not beating through my chest as we wait for other strugglers results to come through or if Pompey could hold onto that lead or away draw.
I will happily settle for the new ground, decent training facilities and a couple of good players, and staying up of course, anything else and we might lose our soul as said earlier by someone in this thread, blimey might be worth finding out though.!!!!
