Once upon a time there was a fox. It was an extremely hot day, and he was nosing around a farm, looking for something to eat. He came across a vineyard, full of ripe plump juicy grapes, which was strange seeing as it was the middle of winter and the farm was in Finland. But anyway, he saw the grapes, and licked his lips, and prepared himself for a nice meal.
The vines were on high wooden frames. The fox jumped up to try and grab a bunch of grapes, but just couldn't reach them. He jumped again. He missed again.
He took out his pocket springboard, and jumped up from that, but still couldn't reach them. He kept on trying to reach them for the better part of an hour before giving up. He was then hotter than ever, and hungrier and thirstier than ever.
He crept away, immensely annoyed, and muttered to himself, 'I never wanted those grapes anyway. What would a fox be doing trying to eat grapes? Huh. Stupid grapes. Always hated grapes. Didn't want them anyway.'
He was so preoccrupied with his muttered and scowling that he didn't notice the farmer, who was standing close by with his double barrelled shotgun. The farmer shot the fox.
The moral of this story is: Don't eat grapes. They're deceptive, dangerous and evil. Previous fable - The Wolf and the Horse Next fable - The Good Beekeeper
