Greetings, Unknown Visitor! This website is under the jurisdiction of Mikey the Humming Mouse1, roving reporter for the Hitchhiker's Guide. Specializing in Sea Monkeys, Felines, Articifial Food Products, Funky Gadgets, and Really Incredibly Nasty Diseases. If you're really curious, click HERE for links to all the Edited Guide entries I've had a hand in one way or another. You can click here to stalk my forum conversations. Are you interested in racking up some Edited Guide entries of your own, but aren't sure where to start? Or maybe you have some smashing entries already, but want a hand navigating the Peer Review process?
If so, stop by at Hitchhiking Your Way into the Edited Guide, and we will match you up with someone who can give you a lift! If you're just looking for a stimulating place for a good discussion, you might try checking out the Forum.
Stoppin' by and want to say "Hi!"? for your thoughts! Post a message below to my guestbook.
Anyone out there from the Pacific Northwest in the US? Or planning on stopping by? Then come check out the newly founded Northwest US Researchers Group!
I used to be subeditor for the Update project, but now that there's a real Update Scheme, I will be hanging around there a lot and lending a hand.
I'm also a scout, a guru, and a University of Life faculty member for the completed Girl Scouts project.
I was also the VERY FIRSTEST person to join the Campaign for Microbe Awareness. I think that makes me some kind of Microbial Princess, don't you? Oh, and I'm also a member of The Royal h2g2 Geographical Entry Society - everyone needs a touch of royalty in their life, don't you think?
Someday, I'd like to be a queen, too, but that really doesn't have too much to do with h2g2. I also have a few slightly more realistic goals for my life. For those who desperately feel the need to know more about me, read my excrutiatingly boring biography. Here is a ongoing list of entries I want to write at some point. Want to know what I'm currently working on?
Well.....
- I'm still deciding which entry to update next -- any suggestions?
-
I currently have nothing in Peer Review, though -- I've been a very lazy girl as of late.....
-
And I have a handful of entries I'm trying to get ready for Peer Review, including:
- Ley Lines,
- Things to Know About Large Breasts,
- Natural Family Planning and the Fertility Awareness Method,
- Sexually Transmitted Infections in Older Adults,
- Places to Go Swimming in Seattle, Washington USA,
- Centennial Beach - A Fake Beach in Naperville, Illinois USA,
- The Milieu Books of Julian May - this one will be a series of four entries, I think.
If there's anyone who needs to get a hold of me, try posting a message below. I'll try to get to it as soon as I wake up. Oh, and here's some links I never can remember: And here's my h2g2 code:
----BEGIN H2G2 CODE BLOCK----
Version: 1.1
RA Y+++ N- SB+ A+ P++>+: M s(--) V+++(--) E+ PR++(+) p- a- B++
TV- r++@ D+ m- t
-----END H2G2 CODE BLOCK-----
Mikey's To Do List for h2g2, and old entries to update. Even better yet, get off the internet, and plug back into real life! I changed my Brunel colors to reflect the current weather in Seattle. A free piece of to the first person who guesses what it's doing outside right now. 1 U99875, -(9/9)+8+(7*5) = 42

(Sep 14, 2006)
Ann Richards died today; she was previously the Texas governor and has long been one of the most amazing women I had ever met.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/09...p/index.html?section=cnn_topstories
That article neatly summarizes the wonderful things she did for politics, the Democratic party, and the state of Texas.
Here's what I remember.
She rode a motorcycle. She found the time to meet with random Brownie troops, and treated low-income Black girls like they were people, not a photo opportunity. Even when she was still in office, you'd run into her at Taco Bell and she'd stop and chat, even though you were a total stranger. And she dyed her hair purple for Halloween one year, I seem to remember.
She will be missed. In a lot of ways, she already was. Click here to discuss this

Entries I'm currently working on....
(Sep 10, 2006)
More for my own reminder-ing than anything else, here are the entries I'm currently working on:
In PR: So You Want to Be a Nun ()
Rescued: Ley Lines (A3158615) - I've been working on this one off and on for a long, long time, and it still needs quite a bit of work. It's unclear in many places, and rather biased throughout. But it will get there eventually.
Started a long time ago: Natural Family Planning and the Fertility Awareness Method (A1106065) - I really do want to get this one done one of these days, but it is just taking a lot more work than the average entry. There aren't a lot of completely unbiased sources - most lean too heavily in one direction or the other - and a lot of the content simply talks about concepts that would be unfamiliar to most of the readers here. But it's definitely made a lot of progress over the last year. I'm betting people will still hate it when I put it in PR, though.
Another spin-off from Things to Know About Large Breasts: From Gargantuan to Modest: Having Breast Reduction Surgery (A14238993) - what started out as one entry is now spinning off into many separate entries, and this will be the second of such. Should be easy enough to write, as I have all of the info researched already, I just need to get writing.

Some sad news
(Apr 17, 2006)
I'm not sure if there is anyone left on my friends list who remembers this h2g2 researcher, but I am passing on the sad news that Barton died on Saturday.
I will find out if there are any plans for a memorial or such, and will post any details here.
There just aren't any smileys I can make myself use for this one.

Prompted by Amy P.....
(Dec 1, 2005)
Post your answers below, and then feel free to copy the questions onto your own journal.
1. Have we met? 2. If so, where and when? If not, where and when would you like to? 3. What's the first thing you remember about me? 4. Do we stay in touch? Would you like it if we saw more of each other (or got the chance to meet)? 5. Would you consider me an internet acquaintance, internet friend, buddy, friend, close friend, best friend, family, lover or not a friend at all?

It's almost 3AM and....
(Jun 14, 2005)
Well, truly it's only 2:30am -- but the carpet cleaners will be here in 8 hours, and I've only cleaned half the house -- the upstairs is still largely left to be done.
There's something about cleaning that drives me to procrastination like nothing else in the world.... Hence, of course, being on hootoo at 2:30am when the only reason I'm still awake is that the cleaning is yet to be finished.
