Wasn't Bond expelled from Eton, or is that just in the "official autobiography"? Bond was also a Commander in the RNVR. Any other parallels?

Yes, to a great extent it was.

Fleming gave Bond most of his own opinions and habits. In many ways though Bond was all that Fleming wasn't, and there is some evidence that Fleming did not have a particularly high opinion of his hero, at least intellectually. Bond represented the fantasy world Fleming inhabited I think.

Bon was expelled from Eton, and Fleming's exit from that institution was (I believe) similar. Fleming was a Commander in the RNVR also.
