There seems to be endless information on HMS Warrior but nothing about the man who created her.
Does anyone know anything about Isaac Watts, the designer? He is buried in the churchyard of St Peter-in-Thanet, Broadstairs, Kent. I would be interested in any information on his life.

I don't have any info on the life of this man... But perhaps you would like to try asking over at Askh2g2 or maybe doing a research project of your own and write a guide entry of your findings...?

Hello,
Isaacs Watts is my great great grandfather (however we know him as Isaac Watson). My grandmother told me that he was a naval architect and that he designed the first Iron Clad ship for the British Navy. His son Joseph was a pipefitter for the Navy.
Isaac spent much of his early years in the Portsmouth Dockyards. He studied at the school of Naval Architecture for 7 years.
He also designed two other huge Frigates, the Mersey and the Orlando.
He also developed a system for men to be paid by piece work instead of by the day. This was adopted by the government and he was rewarded by being moved from Somerset House to Whitehall.
I'm told he died in Whitehall.
He was born in 1801 and died in 1881.
