I tend to forget, although it's been in the news here for days now. Only today I wondered why they were flying the flags at the municipal building. It took me a moment to remember. 
It's the most important thing that's happened in the last twenty years.
What happened on 9/11 was a big shock but the world's already recovering from it.
It's still a huge east/west divide here.

Ah yes, 20 years ago it was my first term at university as a student.
In the space of 8 weeks the Berlin Wall came down and communist governments fell in Romania, Hungary, Poland, East Germany in quick succession. Some of them more bloodily than others. Soon after Gorbachev was ousted and Boris Yeltsin was standing on a tank then students were being shot in Tianenmen Square.
Wow.
And I very nearly missed it all because I was eighteen and getting  !!!! <party>
Makes me feel old that it was all 20 years ago though.
