In many ways, these user journals are like secret diaries. Unless you're well known for your witty journal entries, or you happen to be someone important (like an editor) 'tis doubtable that anyone reads your journal. And if they do read it, not very often. Unlike a secret diary, as soon as you start pouring out your innermost secrets, you have a problem. If you have interesting secrets, as soon as someone realises what you're doing, you'll become well known for your witty journal entries. It stops being secret at that point. This isn't a problem from the fame point of view, but it is a problem if the people in the secrets find out. Or maybe not, if you've said nice things. I don't really have any interesting secrets though, so my journal will remain fairly secret for now, read only by the odd wandering mushroom.
I was in a poetical mood today, so I wrote a page on footnotes. It seemed logical at the time. I found no paperclips.

Ferns and Fungi Apr 17, 2000
I'm back from wandering on the moors. If you ever go to Dartmoor in Devon, I'd recommend a visit to Wistman's Wood. 'Tis a very unique looking place. The trees are stunted (though healthy), and surrounded by rocks. The rocks and the trees and everything else is carpeted in mosses and lichens. 'Tis very pretty. For those of a ferny nature, both species of filmy ferns found in the UK can be found in Wistman's Wood.
H2G2 is a bit lacking on the fungi front, so I thought I would make a little haven of mushroomyness here. There will possibly be more mushrooms to come. I shall see how well the first mushrooms grow, and if they enjoy living here. I found no paperclips today.

Ponies and Sparklies Apr 6, 2000
The results are in! All the guide entries I first submitted have now been accepted or rejected. The My Little Pony page took the longest. Probably because I didn't know how to do headers and footnotes and other natty things then, so someone else had to do it. It also seems that the editors do not believe in the existance of sparklies. All in all, I wasn't surprised by the results (though I held a vague hope they might know what sparklies are... you never know where you'll find a sparklie wielding dragon in disguise as an editor). New guide entries should hopefully be more continuous now, as I was waiting to see how the original ones were received. For the latest offering, I've written one on gryphons. There won't be any more for at least a week, as I'm going away to wander aimlessly on the moors. Today I found three paperclips.

Sex, sex, and more sex Dec 5, 1999
It is a widely passed on thing that the most commonly searched for word on the major internet search engines is sex. If this is true, it would be fair to assume that sex is commonly searched for on H2G2. And if this is true, then this journal entry should come up alot, because I've mentioned sex six times already, and I'm only part way through writing this. This might even be considered a good way to see if the searching for sex thing is true, as if it is, many people will find this journal entry. But I doubt many who do will want to admit to it and reply. Or will try to bluff with "I actually found your journal when I searched for 'disestablishmentarianism'", in the misguided hope that everyone will believe them. Today I found no paperclips.
