Philosophical bit Homo Sapiens divides life into extremes - Left and Right, Men and Women, Science and Arts, America and the Rest .
The trick is finding where to stand.
It follows that an ambidextrous hermaphrodite with a BA in Physics, standing in the middle of the Atlantic, will be very confused. And wet Business bit If you have a query on pages I have edited, please send it to me at john@subs.h2g2.com. Thought for the Day Typing exercises for the 21st Century : The quick Brown's email jumped over the lazy, faxing (work it out - it does contain all the letters)

Happy New Year from Barcelona. If you thought you could speak Spanish, come here - they speak Catalan ! This is a wonderful city, full of Gaudi at his gaudiest. The weather is warm, the birds are singing on the Ramblas and the Cavalcade of the Kings is yet to come.
What a way to start a new year.
¡ Hasta luego !
Still busy, but wetter.... Nov 26, 2000
I have been visiting the site (honest!) but life has been hectic. I am in charge of support for a couple of flood warning systems for the Environment Agency, one in the Midlands (Severn & Trent), one in the North-East (Yorkshire and so on). Which regions got flooded? South, NE and Midlands.
2 out of 3 ain't bad!
So I have been dealing with the problems that these two regions have had - they've been working round the clock, I haven't, so a big hurrah please for the folk at the EA. A data restore at 3am comes to mind - we did it and were able to tell Yorkshire to evacuate in time.
At the same time the Severn was flooding, Gloucester underwater, but the Flood Defence Team at Sapphire (Dickie, John(I've been on the 10 O'Clock News)C, Katharine, Claire, Tim and everyone else) deserve a huge thank you for their work in predicting what was likely to flood and warning people. Being flooded out is never pleasant, but if you are warned in time, it is more bearable. That is what the EA Flood Defence Teams try to do.
From your correspondent in water, now back to the studio............

Busy..... Feb 18, 2000
I've been a bit lax of late and not visited the site often enough. I plead pressure of work. Next week will not be better, as I have to go to Stevenage - I lived there for 16 months and am not eager to return, but..... I have to, oh well. Still, I can edit some articles <evil laugh/> while I'm there.

New Job Dec 13, 1999
New job, new company, great fun. Life is going to be very busy in the future. Day 1 was quiet, but I am visiting a client tomorrow, back home on Wednesday, possibly back with the client Thursday and Friday. They don't hang about!
