Be that as it may, a rewrite of the intro. is in order.

I think I've discovered a sub-species of the House Sparrow - Sparrow squirrellbashius.
This morning, I opened the kitchen door and looked out onto the back garden.
I saw the first grey Squirrel in these parts for some time, running across the back of the garden. It climbed up the fence, and as it ran across the top ot the fence it was mobbed by a dozen or more sparrows. They created such a noise as the flew low over the squirrel! The squirrel was then chased over next door's garden, and over towards the old pumping station. The sparrows made such a din as they drove it away!
I can only assume that in the trees at the bottom of the garden there were some nests, with either a second clutch of eggs or nestlings.
I nave never seen such co-operative behaviour in birds before!
