| | Greetings | | Having totally happened upon this site by accident I've heartly joined in hopes of finding new and exiciting ways to waste time at work. Actually, all kidding aside, I came across the Salmon of Doubt by D. Adams which told me, Jo, go to the guide and meet people like yourself. Normally I don't listen to directives given by tape players but in this case, it seemed a good idea. So, here I am. Welcome to the page and drop a line next time you're in the neighborhood.

Been gone for a while and realized how long it's been since I've updated the journal. So I cleared a few enteries.
So, what's up with Jo?
The hubby and I bought a new computer. I'm searching for some new, professional opportunities. And, my class (I teach) is coming to an end. I'll have the summer off.
That's about it. Life's fairy uninteresting. Hope to write something better soon.

Rain and Umbrellas Mar 19, 2003
I was thinking about the devices we use to keep rain off ourselves while trudging the two blocks from our appointed parking spots and the building. Why is it that this device is called an Umbrella here in the States and a Bumbershoot (pardon the spelling but it's not in the dictionary here) in the UK and in other parts of the world. I could understand if these words were related in some way or if one were easier to say and or spell but both are odd words. Must look up and see if someone's covered it. If not, might be a good idea for a guide entry.
Not much else going on. I'm ludicriously behind on work but it's my own fault. I get days when I can barely motivate myself to get a cup of tea much less do anything productive. I've left my day planner in the car (drat!) and I don't think its important enough to go back out in to the rain to retreive. Oh well. I'll just wing it. I know which projects are on fire. I'll do those and if it clears up by lunch, I get it from the car.
Anyway, must run.

A sad day Mar 18, 2003
Seems like we're going to war with Iraq. I'm here in the states and find the prospect of war sad. I don't want to argue the reasoning for my heart goes out to people living under a regime of violence and fear but I do not believe that going over there and blowing up significant portions of the country to be a great help to the already impoverished people. Additionally I don't like our president playing schoolyard bully with the rest of the world. However, none of it matters. For or against we everyday Americans are powerless in our ability to stop the momentum of our leaders who seem to be now engaged in an international pissing contest (pardon the language). What worries me is that, throughout history, violence begets more violence and I do not see how thrusting our great military might into action is going to achive peace anytime soon. I'm buring a peace candle in my window, while it is not going to save any lives it's my becon of hope that some day we'll emerge from this technological adolecene and finally achive our full potential as a species.
