Talix18, Keeper of the ocean crashing on the shore, ...

... excessive magnetic poetry, and the Somebody Else's Problem field

Hrm....I am realizing this very instant that I've not given the proper amount of thought to the Guide's entry on me. I am also suffering cultural whiplash as it occurs to me that the outrageous device suggested by Douglas Adams (a portable guide to Everything?) can now be mine with the purchase of a PDA and a decent signal.

Name: Talix18
Keeper of...the ocean crashing on the shore, excessive magnetic poetry, and the Somebody Else's Problem field.
Born: 39 years ago (relative to the time and place from which I am currently writing) (year=one of Earth's trips around closest yellow sun)
Planet: Earth
Blood Type: O+
Life-form: Carbon-based, human
Original limbs: Four
Heads: One
Number of Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters consumed before loss of consciousness: I have been twelve years alcohol free; I suspect today a strong whiff of mouthwash could knock me out.
Turn-ons: Oceans, oxygen, lesbian/gay porn, hot fudge, soft sheets and firm pillows, the light of the yellow sun closest to Earth
Turn-offs: Drunks, arrogance, vomit, large groups of small loud children

Currently employed by an agency run by one of Earth's loudest governments with hopes of enjoying the security of a regular paycheck for the duration of her natural life, Tal is a reformed party girl who really just wants love, peace of mind, a connection with a power greater than herself, and 10% body fat. She's also a home owner as of March 2003, which has basically sent her right 'round the bend.

That said, I intend to familiarize myself with the doings around here before I submit entries for consideration. I am not well-traveled in the physical sense (having only visited about half of the northern hemisphere of this planet) but I feel that my emotional, psychological, and spiritual travels may provide valuable tips on exactly how not to do the first third of your natural life span. Thank you for your attention and don't forget to tip your servers.

"You're in a bad mood? Please. You don't even know what a bad mood is. You're the kind of person who drives by the sign that says *Bad Mood Bluffs. Stay the eff out* and says 'Ooooo - how liberating it would be to be able to tell someone how you really feel!' You come in, stop at the information center, and maybe even drive up and down a few streets before you visit the gift shop and go on your way. Talk to me when you move in."
grr

The saga of Alvin Ave continues...
Feb 4, 2003

This week is the mad dash to submit various forms of proof that some cash is actually supporting the deposit and forthcoming downpayment. Thank goodness for family who have mad cash in the bank!

Jan. 28, 2003 - 2119 Alvin Ave.
Jan 28, 2003

Sheesh! One little topic - you'd think I could keep up with it, but obviously not. Here's the update for the week...

The inspection went relatively smoothly - not only is AC going to be installed, but the heat is going to be run to the bathroom as well. There are some minor electrical issues out in the shed. The biggest problem is the flue not being the required 2" from combustable material (namely, the roof). An addendum was added to the contract requesting the items noted be repaired or resolved AND I asked for a home warranty for one year. I'm still not sure if the seller is willing to pay for that, but my realtors said they'd get it for me (as a gift) if he didn't.

Friday was the appointment with the loan official. My mortgage is goiong to be a little steeper than I expected but if I deny myself cable, net access, and food, I should be able to pull it off. Plus my best friend's finace may rent storage space in my shed. Anyway, the loan officer turned out to be the older brother of a guy in my class who killed himself (accidentally) my senior year of high school. (This happened the same week that the Challenger exploded - Catonsville was very somber that week.) My mother reminded me that I had gone to Kyle's viewing. Anyway, my hometown got just that much smaller when Greg (the loan guy) told me that Kyle's best friend still decorates the pine tree they planted in Kyle's memory up at the school. Kyle's best friend would be the father of the baby I thought I was carrying the summer after high school. Ah....memories.

Greg says it's a lock that I'll get my loan. Now I need to get a letter signed by the cousin who's lending me the money for the downpayment (let's hear it for family) until I can liquidate my (few) assets. Then I put a big fat check in my account only to write another big fat check a month from today. I can't believe this is really happening. Thank you, Universe!

January 21, 2003....2119 Alvin Avenue
Jan 21, 2003

Yesterday I opened a new chapter in my life - I submitted and had accepted a contract for the purchase of a house. The home inspection is in a few hours. My stomach is in knots and my head feels like it's spinning.

This is a new experience for me on so many levels. If you read one of the articles to which I contributed, you'll get (in brief, to say the least) the story of my recovery from drug addiction. I also live with depression. I never believed I could own a home. Technically, I still don't, but suddenly the dream is manifesting in reality.

The house is very small and was built in the late 40s; it is a stand-alone and does so on a quarter-acre lot. All I can think about are the inevitable emergency expenses, things breaking, necessary additions and yet I'm strangely calm. I keep thinking of sitting on my deck and looking at the woods of the state park just a few houses down the street. Of my cat perched on his own window seat in the sun. Of my all my stuff under one roof. I'm not sure how everything will fit and I really have no furniture, but I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Sinuses ... 16 April 2002
Apr 16, 2002

It is important to note that if you do not have sinus trouble when you get to Maryland, you will when you leave. Last week we had a couple of days of 50-ish (Fahrenheit) and cloudy; this week we're in for three straight mid 80s days. My sinuses, my own built in barometer, are I guess full of gunk and giving me spectacular headaches that no medicine seems to relieve. I don't think I'd mind if the phenomenon was limited to high pollen counts but no, I get to play whenever the weather changes, which in Baltimore is like every five hours.

Be mindful of this should this part of the galaxy be on your itinerary. Great city, lots to do, sinus hell.
