| | ...and some information to help you live in it... | |
A little bit about me1
Well... where to start?
At the beginning? If I did that I think it would take too long, and I'd lose you interest somewhere around the end of my first week. And so instead here follows a very brief summary of the more interesting events of my life so far.. I grew up in a small town in Essex, called Coggeshall2, went to a local primary school, Colchester Royal Grammar School(here's what I was like when I left) and then, aged 19, started university. I am in my first year, studying medicine at Cambridge, specifically at Gonville and Caius3 College. There are currently two pages about the college- A Brief History of Caius" and a Life at Caius that I'm sure Catwoman will update soon. Alternatively you could view the following pages about pastimes at Caius, pennying and boat races.
Things that I like doing Like every person that ever there was I enjoy a random mixture of vaguely amusing activities with some soul-building and enrichening4 pursuits. Here are some you may find informative:
Plotting to take over the worldRandom things in carsPlaying minigolf online
Philosophy
I can't say I know exactly how to define my philosophy on life, when asked if the glass is half-empty or half-full I usually try to find some semiwitty reply that doesn't involve actually answering the question. Actually, thinking about it I usually try to answer questions this way- due my total lack of comedy however I fail. In addition i get totally confused by the whole "cogito ergo sum"5, I mean how is one supposed to know whether one is actually thinking, or just thinking that one is thinking? Or have I totally missed the point and both are actually the same thing? Who knows? Frankly; who cares?
Pages That Appear Useful
These pages are here mostly so that I can keep track of them! List of smileys Does exactly what is says on the tin Websafe coloursCode for pretty colours A List of pictures to use on your pages Codes for symbols- using symbols on your pages.
Things I've had published
This isn't as hard as it might seem- to get into simply write an article that is half decent and send it, in simple text preferably, to the team. The easiest way to get into the edited quide is to contribute to one of the Collaborative Topics. If I managed it, so can anyone.
Articles published in Pennying at Caius- A Noble Cambridge Tradition
Articles published in The Edited Guide A Guide To Modern Etiquette Godspeed You! Black Emperor- The Band
Articles published on the Front Page ofThe Edited Guide A Brief History of Gonvillle and Caius College
My Friends Catwoman- I've already linked to her above, but hey! She deserves at least two mentions! Xero- Like me he appears to be a serial drunkard. Ask him about handkerchiefs Placebo Domino-He's new- be friendly to him! Terri & Yoda-Very keen on using smilies, she describes herself as a
And finally... and most importantly...
1 User Number=192134... INVSin(1)-9*(2+3!)+4!=42 2 In fact since my parent's home is still there and I'm a student I still live there most of the year 3 Pronounced "Keys" 4 Is that even a word? 5 "I think, therefore I am"

I have noticed that some people, in their "Friends section" have two bits, one that says "People on xxxxxx's friends list" and another that says "People who have xxxxxxx on their friend's list", whilst others, myself included, only have the former section.
Anyone know why?
Worrying developments May 8, 2003
Recently I've been finding that as I write notes for revision more and more of my letters begin to resemble the way my father writes them. It started with an N or two, now nearly all my quick notes capital Ns are like my father's. Today I noticed an f and an r. My symptoms are increasing exponentially! AAAAAAAGH!
Distractions Apr 21, 2003
So far today, in order to distract myself from work I have: 1, Done a 2km erg as part of the ongoing distraction project of rowing (see A703009) 2, Been to supermarket to get supplies. 3, Made easter/spring themed chocolate nests with cereal, chocolate and minature chocolate eggs. 4, Had a 20 minute sleep. 5, Written this.
Back at Cambridge Apr 15, 2003
Well: I'm back at university now for my third term- the all important exam term and to be honest the whole exam thing scares me witless. So I'm not going to talk about it. On a happier note my article on Godspeed You! Black Emperor (see link in main section) has now been accepted for the edited guide. Yey!

Weird films Apr 5, 2003
I went to go and see "Rules of Attraction" last wednesday with my girlfriend. She (you know who you are) says that I only ever take her to weird films- and there was no change from the norm this time. The film is very good, if very disturbing in places (two scenes in particular stand out as being particularly difficult viewing), but I will not say explicitly what they are- if you want to know go to www.imdb.com and look around at the spoiler section- but I'm not going to spoil truly shocking scenes for you. Though there is, in places, excessive swearing and frequent nudity and scenes of drug abuse in no place, I thought, was this gratuitous but was needed to further the film and without it the film would have been much less realistic. In short, don't watch it if you only like coming out of a movie feeling good about the world, but do if you like to be forced to ask questions about youself and your relationships with others.
