I am a woman living in Tennessee who is 44 years young.

I'm a big movie fan. Movies are my passion. loveblush I like just about everything except horror films, and I even like some of those, like Psycho. I especially like science fiction and fantasy films. I like to see films on the big screen, even though it's rather expensive, and the crowds can be annoying at times. There's just something about letting a film wash over you, larger than life. Of course I still watch all my old favorites on DVD. Thank goodness for Netflix!

My other major interest is artwork. I like to paint in oils - portraits, landscapes, and abstracts.artist rainbow Lately I've been doing a series of mandalas (circular artwork) on the computer. I start with a hand-drawn spirograph, scan it in and color that in using Photo Impact. You can see a lot of my artwork at MY WEBSHOTS PAGE. Take a look and tell me what you think! Plus you can see pictures of my cat! And do visit the h2g2 gallery GALLERY 42, a collection by many h2g2 artists.

I might add that I added the 42 to my screenname as a tribute to Douglas Adams. You can make a donation in Adams' memory to a charity he wholeheartedly supported, The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Another way to support the gorilla preservation cause is to donate to Koko, the signing gorilla.

Have some strawberries and cream as you peruse my Journal.strawberries Alabaster is my favorite h2g2 skin, the one I use most of the time. As for Guide Entries, I've mostly been involved with collaborative ones, like the Bad Dates Entry. But I did finally find time to do one of my own, a little one - How to Copy and Paste for Newbies.

Here are some of my favorite things:
An old-style camera on an open book

  • Movies: Star Wars*, Casablanca
  • Actresses: Cate Blanchett, Ingrid Bergman
  • Actors: Ralph Fiennes, Leonardo DiCapriorose , Tom Hanks
  • Authors: Douglas Adams, Ray Bradbury, Richard Bach
  • Music: The Beatles, Cat Stevens, Beethoven
  • Artists: Vermeer, The Impressionists, and The PreRaphaelites
  • *I only like the original Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, not Jedi or Phantom Menace. Attack of the Clones was pretty good, as was Sith.

I greatly admire the World War II resistance group "White Rose."

I've spent a lot of time at this website, Explore London. I love that city. Come take a virtual tour.

You can find some nice quotes at Words of Wisdom - Guiding Lights. I am a friend of De Myelin Nation. Check the pulse of h2g2 at the Statistics Page. Some useful links for me include the NewUsers page, Ask h2g2,Miscellaneous Chat,Games, The Post.space thepost , and The Beatles Fan Club. Of course, for something totally unexpected, you can try Random Entry.

I know some of you are having a difficult time right now. Sending out consolations to all of you struggling with various things. Hugs especially to Aye Bee, Strangely Strange, and Flying Ants. And to all who celebrate Christmas, send out the very best wishes for happy times with family and friends. I'm thinking of you all. Lots of love, Ellen

    Hi All.

I noticed that Jabberwock hasn't posted in more than a month. Anyone still in touch with him? I miss him.

I am also wondering, who is still reading this? Are there still active subscribers to my journal? I keep in touch with some of you through other venues now, but who's still keeping up with me here?

    Web Design
    Oct 17, 2009

I've decided I want to learn web design. I've ordered a book on the subject (Web Design All-in-one for Dummies). No wisecracks from the peanut gallery please. I think it would be fun to learn to code. Of course, I might be wrong, and be tearing my hair out this time next month. We'll see. It does combine two of my interests, art and computers. I think I could be good at it.

Paul McKenna is the Bee's Knees
    Sep 28, 2009

I just bought Paul McKenna's book and CD I Can Make You Sleep. It is EXCELLENT! Very informative and helpful, and the CD is downright cool. I'm very impressed with McKenna's hypnosis method; it's the best I've come across. In fact, I was so impressed that I went out and bought his other book, I Can Make You Thin. If you listen to the CDs on stereo headphones it's a lot of fun, because at certain parts you hear different sentences in different ears. All at once. I suppose that one part is aimed at your right brain, and one part at your left brain. McKenna has a smooth voice with a nice British accent. I'll be using these CDs often!
