| | Who is Not Banned Yet? | |
I've been led to believe that a self-introduction I've written in a conversation is reasonably good. Since this is the place where I'm supposed to introduce myself to anyone who may not have visited with me before, here it is. Who is Not Banned Yet?
Not Banned Yet is...
...the researcher formerly known as "0," before which, he was known as "Not Banned Yet."
...a resident of one of Denver's generiburbs.
...an old lefty.
...a member of the old SBVM (ask if you don't know).
...originally from upstate New York and came to Denver by way of Boston and Long Beach.
...a government (state) bureaucrat of long standing. (!)
...a member of his union's statewide Executive Council.
...a known trouble maker.
...proud of most of his Edited Guide entries.
...a student of US labor history (not on any formal basis).
...middle-aged, bearded, pony-tailed and bald.
...overly fond of political discussion, especially on the level of international politics.
I think that about covers it. Oh yeah, one more thing. I can be reached by email at d_e_conway "at" Yahoo "dot" com.

I just learned today that you died a month ago, Felice. Even though I live in a different part of the country now and haven't seen you in close to 30 years, I'll miss you. Earth is just a little less bright because of your absence. You defined the phrase "free spirit."

R. I. P. - Trust Dec 18, 2007
Trust is dead.
To compensate, we have tried regulating the behavior of commerce, finance and nearly every aspect of life. Some on the religious right want to force married people to keep their vows and some on the secular left want to write enough laws that trust isn’t necessary because it is replaced by government control.

This might be one of the best commentaries on "what's wrong with the United States (and perhaps the rest of the so-called civilized world) today" that I've run across.

Success redefined Dec 12, 2007
According to the president of the United States, speaking about the US lead invasion of Iraq, "...success is a level of violence where the people feel comfortable about living their daily lives. And that's what we're trying to achieve."
Once people are used to a certain level of violence, success has been acheived?

Things that are frightening Jul 8, 2006
Members of violent street gangs getting weapons and training from the United States Military...
"Gangs claim their turf in Iraq"
"The Gangster Disciples, Latin Kings and Vice Lords were born decades ago in Chicago's most violent neighborhoods. Now, their gang graffiti is showing up 6,400 miles away in one of the world's most dangerous neighborhoods -- Iraq."

Quotation of the moment Mar 15, 2006
"Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don't know we don't know."
Donald Rumsfled, US Secretary of Defense, in 2003
