Comment on traffic

"He who walks, in average sees more of people and cosmos than he who rides. Sitting in a coach, one has separated himself several degrees from humanity. One cannot look into each other's face as firmly and clearIy and necessarily one does too little or too much. If everybody rides too much, everything goes bad, just look around. Driving shows impotence, walking shows power. Just because of this I rarely desire to drive; also, I cannot give a a dime to a poor man as easily and friendly when sitting in a coach."
J.G.Seume: "My Summer 1805"

Conservation of intelligence?
Jul 29, 2001

" Da steh' ich nun, ich armer Tor! Und bin so klug als wie zuvor; " Goethe, Faust I, V.358-359.
Is this an early formulation for the law of the conservation of intelligence?
