kirun - like you care

I'm off. I've seen the light, a better way of doing things. No more censored links. No more abandoned articles. I'm now a Wikipedian.

If you're unfamiliar with the concept, basically anyone can edit any page. This means if you see an article with things you can contribute, you can do it straight away. No posting in the discussion and hoping it gets added. Article histories are kept, so it's super-easy to defeat the trolls.

If you're protective of your precious creations, Wiki is not for you. If you're ready to contribute, come take a look

What is below was true when I left H2G2. It will slowly go out of date. Boo hoo.

If you're expecting an exciting introduction, sorry. If, however, you're expecting a list of things which you don't really care about, then you won't be disappointed. Unless you were expecting to be disappointed.

I am a final year Computing and Information Systems student at Bradford University. You can mostly find me in #mozillazine on irc.mozilla.org. Download a Mozilla nightly now, and help test it.MozillaZine will point you to a good build. My new website is almost done, I might even get a few things fixed here.

You might also catching me playing MAME. Although I totally deny I ever download any roms. (except for the strange 24-hour limit thing)

As I was asked in the forum down below, no my nickname doesn't come from Kiruna (although it has been suggested before). It comes from the fact that nobody could spell "Kieran" when talking to me online, and they used "Kirun" instead. And the title's to warn people it's just a bio page.

Question? What OS and server does H2G2 use? Answer.

Hey, if your screensaver has fish or toasters, it's wasting time! Take part in the SETI@home project. There's a tiny chance that *your* computer could find intelligent life from another planet. And if you don't believe in it, the graphs are pretty cool to watch :). Although real SETIers turn them off for speed. Join the Vulture Central team while you're at it - we're rising up the charts and are about 35th!

Read about BBC Censorship of a parody. "The programmes are transmitted as supplied to us by the distributor, 20th Century Fox" - Sue Deeks, from BBC Programme Acquisition, on The Simpsons. She obviously forgot about these.

All pages are 19 clicks or less away. Even pr0n. So how many links away can offensive content be? If I get a link pulled down, can I make an external page that links to it? Why can't the BBC just use http refresh tags and a page saying "This site is not the BBC's. If you don't like it, don't come crying to us. Just press the nice button and we'll look at it and decide if it's actually offensive or whether you're just a prude."

I would be updating my articles here, but I've been fiddling with PHP recently. My website will soon suck even less.

[url] down
Mar 25, 2001

My favourite MAME ROM site, [url] has virtually shut down because [url] didn't pay up the banner money and they couldn't pay their ISP.

The banner network is [url]. Oh wait, can't post URLs. The same one that [url] is/was on. Search for JEFFK. Can I say that?

Anyway, the webmaster of [url] got a job at [url] to try and fix the non-payment of webmasters. But [url] no longer displays [url] banners, so maybe the webmaster of [url] quit from [url]. Maybe he'll move to [url] or [url]. But then the joke here: [url] about being on the [url] network wouldn't work.

Anyway, [url] said that the [url] network wasn't paying them either, but they liked doing their site and didn't mind too much, as they still had the hosting. Shame [url] didn't host [url], or I could still use it.

Maybe they'll move to using [url] or [url] donation systems.
