Favourite quotes God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference
- Reinhold Niebuhr - The Serenity Prayer
For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
- Vincent van Gogh There are only two ways to live your life: one is as though nothing is a miracle; the other is as if everything is a miracle. - Albert Einstein (1879-1955) What is the purpose of life? To be the eyes and ears and conscience of the creator of the universe. - Kurt Vonnegut (1922-2007) Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -

Next Wednesday 7.30pm is the monthly local Astronomy Club meeting, no talk by a prominent gues, just a members meeting with promised mince pies while we hand over a cheque for next year's events (£30 covers all the speakers' expenses) or you can choose to pay £3 on the door when you go, (but that doesn't entitle you to member's benefits) so it's a fair deal I also had ordered a local astronomer's pamphlet, full of detail I like, as I was given this year's last time I went. Last time I went it was noticed that I'd been there two months on the trot, surprising as the place was so packed, but touching none the less, that I wasn't invisible. I was looking forward to going and chatting with the other members as I've not had chance to do that yet.
Past tense all because Mum told me the NVA Christmas Dinner is next Wednesday 7.30pm and she's expecting me to take her.
Guardian Angels working overtime Last Week
I'm pleased to report that Andrew and I, and my little car, are all still in one piece (the shapes we should be).
Last night taking him to his club, I did a detour (still a route I know very well, but a long way round) to avoid the roadworks on the main artery through Cleethorpes, the A1098 or Taylor's Av to the residents. I went via Sandringham Road, a bus route. I know as I turn into Sandringham that there's a bus stop opposite and cars parked on my side all the way up the hill. So I am ultra careful turning that corner, in case there's a bus pulled up there, as there's only room for one car... as almost a preminition, I turned, there was a stopped low-rider, so I braked. A split second later, the car that was behind the bus OVERTOOK it on my side of the road, and so had to swerve to avoid me, back in front of the bus. He wasn't half travelling as well, I doubt he even slowed down. The bus driver looked down at me and rolled his eyes, then raised his hand as if to say thanks for being so careful, you avoided a head-on smash. In return I'd like to say thanks to my Guardian Angels who are on their toes (wingtips?)
Children in Need 2009 Last Week
I've just seen the charity video/single, and thank goodness it's already on YouTube, although I hope people will still go out and buy it, it took 2 years to make and Peter Kay is an absolute genius. If your favourite character isn't here then I'm sorry, but you should enjoy this.

Paily, watch out for Peter Kay as an animation, wearing an Elvis outfit, acting Maestro. And Paddington Bear acting Elvis...

Remembrance Sunday 3 Weeks Ago
<poppy> I'm taking Mum to church today to lay her poppy wreath at the Remembrance Service. This time I'll have to stand in line with her, and walk her to the Cenotaph when they call the name of the ladies' branch.
It's always tough seeing the Normandy Veterans, and there will be a lot there today, some of them still march in the parade... but less than last year
thoughts and prayers with my Dad, never forgotten, and all those who never came home
