We apologise for the delay

Thank God I'm back! I only hope no-one think's I'm dead, and has been arranging my online funeral. For why I've been away for so long, check out my Journal entry at the bottom.

On bein' an ACE
Sep 8, 2000

Some time ago I made some unfavourable comments about the sort of people who choose to become ACEs. I now know that those remarks were not what I meant. What I meant was; to some people it can be an ego-booster to have a big shiny badge on their page. There are, of course, genuinely dedicated people who are ACEs, Subs, Gurus or Scouts, who work to make h2g2 just that bit nicer a place to be.

Lately, I've been thinking of becoming an ACE. Since I spend a lot of time on h2g2 anyway, it would be good to give something back to the community, to make newcomers feel welcome. Of course, I can post a welcoming message to someone new whenever I want, but that orange badge of ACEdom would make it a little more ... legit.

Should I or shouldn't I? Discuss here!

Pure Evil
Sep 7, 2000

Lacking anything to do yesterday evening, I went through old CDs and tapes in my family's music collection. There I made two shocking discoveries:

1) My parents own a Garth Brooks single [I may need therapy]

2) Slipknot (allegedly the most dangerous metal band in the world) base their image on the Beatles. Yes, those Beatles.

Let me explain:
The nine members of Slipknot wear masks. One is a clown, another looks like a squid, others defy description. There's somehting quite chilling about those masks.
While looking through CDs, I came across a copy of The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour. On the cover the Beales wear masks. They're animal masks, except I can't figure out what the mask on the far left is. What Slipknot have done is take a cute and surreal gimmick and make it ever so slightly chilling. And for that they're vilified?!

I'm not a fan of Slipknot, but blaming them and other metal bands/artists for some kids walking into school and wasting their classmates shows a certain (if not total) removal from reality.

My message to Middle England/America is: If you want the apothesis of Pure Evil -- check out Garth Brooks.

Holidays
Aug 9, 2000

Yep, the day after tomorrow I'll be off to France, so this is just a wrapping-up of my affairs here before I set off. To be honest, I'm not sure how I'll survive the lingest period so far without h2g2. I'm planning on geting through it by reading. I have Harry Potter #4, two Raymond Chandler novels and a European noir novel, among other things.
Well, see you all in a couple of weeks!

Just got my first ever approved entry!
Well, it was one I contributed to ... sort of.

I just found the most astonshingly patronising drugs page, I'm still not sure if it was a joke or not.

It's five to 2 in the morning, I'm in a fight with a brownie-lover, and I just found a cool site on her page.
