  | | I live in a village in North Lincolnshire that has had a community bonfire for as long as anyone can remember.(Nowadays organised by the Lions) People brought their wooden waste this afternoon. It used to be collected with a tractor and trailer until fairly recently, but now most people have their own cars. The bonfire was built and the firework site roped off just as the sun went down. The best dressed guy was chosen, but they all went on the top anyway. Very good PA system with suitable music. Sales of light sabres etc to wave in time to the music, also sparklers, hot dogs, hot drinks etc. Prompt at six the "little" firework display started . About twenty past, the pushchair and toddler brigade left. Then the lady mayoress lit the bonfire and the "big" display went on until 8.30. Then stuff like spuds and sausages were put into the bonfire. The road past our small park was closed, there was one fire engine and one police car there and at some time the whole population of the village (about two thousand of us) was with them. Dry, but very cold. Technically free, but large men with buckets were scattered about. Perfick!
