I don't get the bit about the penny. I don't remember it in the entry. And, being an ex-colonial, I don't truly understand what the downside of the plot's success would have been nor why the man in the street would burn Mr. fawkes in effigy, unless, of course, it means that he's received much more attention (and a holiday) than James I ever has in the past centuries.
