I think the script was poor despite the scriptwriters. Will Wisher wrote Terminator 2 which is one of the all time classic sci fi action movies. And Steven Souza did write one of the most influential action movies ever - Die Hard. Now neither of these guys are exactly masters of scriptwriting as you can judge by other credits. But i think a major problem (which suprisingly was evident in the making of book for the movie) was the conflicting views between the producers and also the two writers.

In a recent article in the JD Megazine it points out that a new ending was made after test audiences didn't like the fact that Fergie died in the original. The same article also aludes to problems between the Stars and the Director, and various bits of the film ending on the cutting room floor, I'd like to see a Director's Cut with these bits returned to the film....

Basically for the film to have worked it would have needed these things to have been omitted;
1. NOT Stallone.
OK he did his best, but I think a more acomplished, less known actor would have worked by keeping the helmet on more. The arguement that they needed a major Hollywwod actor otherwise the film would flop is just not true for this type of action based FX extravaganza..... just see Godzilla which was truly bad too but did nmuch better.
2. No stupid comedy sidekick.
Simply not needed as the inhabitants of the Big Meg should have provided all the comedy. Think of what could have been done with simps, fatties, sugar dealers, etc. which was all missed.
3. Wrong villian.
Surely it should have been Judge Death who Dredd fought against rather than Rico..... especially since Rico looked just like any other villian and not at all scary or evil.
4. No love interest.
Dredd is married to the law and the whole love thing looked contrived and weak.

With regards to the Rebellion films:
Hello, does anyone know what the drokk is going on with those? I'm not very computer literate but I distinctly remember a while ago being able to find a fews bits of info, about the two films that were going to be made on the net, but I can't seem to find anything now!
Any feedback would be cool!

To be honest, if they get made at all, it'll be a blinking miracle. winkeye

They had some ridiculously small budget, and as soon as they were announced, it all seemed a bit suspicious. I wouldn't be surprised if they were a publicity stunt to try and flog a few more copies of the Dredd vs Death game (which, I gather, was a bit of a bomb, so the chance of actually seeing films is pretty slim at present, I'd say).

I wouldn't write off the films completely yet, but I won't be holding my breath to see...

I gather on the grapevine that Rebellion are on the verge of flogging 2000ad, should the forthcoming Rogue Trooper game tank as relatively badly as Dredd vs Death, so I suspect that any Dredd projects are long since dead in the water. Ah well...
