Hey Guys

At http://www.h2g2.com/A473753 you'll find an entry on How to Survive a Plane Crash.

This subject cropped up in the Extreme Weather Call for Entries and rather than just discard it, I thought I would create a new entry for it here, notify the Researchers and see if anyone wants to take it from here. It seems a great subject to have in the Guide.

As a sweetner, I've put in the GuideML, but I've not touched it otherwise.

Cheers for now and have fun.

Requires some spell checking (blanks after periods, decent vs. descent, your/you're etc), then change from first person to neutral/third person. Can anybody fill in the emergency sitting position as it is nowadays recommended?
Anyway: I like it!

Heres some info for someone
enjoy!!

-Listen to the pre-flight safety briefing.

-Read the safety data card in the seat pocket in front of you.

-When in your seat, keep your seat belt on. Turbulence related accidents with unbelted occupants can be severe.

-Once you reach your seat, locate the closest emergency exit in front and behind you, and then count the seat rows to reach those emergency exits. This will be very helpful in case of evacuation in a smoke filled airplane.

-Wear appropriate clothing:
*Wear clothes made of natural fibers such as cotton, wool, denim, and leather. These fibers offer the best protection during an airplane evacuation or fire. Synthetics such as rayon, polyester, and nylon (especially in hosiery) can melt when heated.
Wear clothing that is non-restrictive.

*Wear long pants and long sleeves. Avoid wearing shorts or skirts since these types of clothes do not appropriately cover extremities.

*Wear low-healed laced or strapped shoes, boots, or tennis shoes. High heeled shoes will have to be removed before leaving the airplane via an escape slide. This will slow your departure from the airplane and put you at risk for severe injury from possible hazards such as broken glass, or metal debris. Avoid wearing sandals for the same reasons.

Flight Phase % of accidents
Takeoff 14.2%
Initial Climb 14.2%
Climb 6.8%
Cruise 4.3%
Descent 6.7%
Initial Approach 11.7%
Final Approach 23.6%
Landing 21.3%
Taxi 1.8%

Have fun

MRMan

This is great stuff - you should be able to edit the entry directly from your home page... if you have any problems, you know where I am.

Ashley!

It looks like MrMan was a one-trick pony. I think he's gone and this entry is bound to end up lost with him unless someone saves it!

I don't fly, or I'd be willing to help...

It's a crying shame too because it had so much promise. Oh well.

Hello,

Sounds interesting, but I can't read it while it's pending moderation. Still, I'll work on it if you want, since such information seems rather useful, just in case. Or I can use it to pick up chicks at parties. Incidentally, these are the two criteria I use to judge Guide Entries. winkeye

Yours,
Jake

Editorial Note: This conversation has been moved from 'The Writing Workshop' to 'The Flea Market'.

...as the author of this entry seems to have 'left the building'.

Anyone still here? This would require a lot of research, but I might be willing to take it on, because it's interesting...
