I believe there is a line to being a good reliable parent as to being a friend. Liking their music and bending over backwards to a seventeen year old who wishes to stay in bed all day will do you no favours. Of course you will be their friend (but friends come and go).Parents are granted respect and once you have earnt that it sticks

I hated my children's music choices in their teens, but they both funded their own music centres by working for them.
I think that allowing them to choose when to get up if they don't have to go to school etc works well. Teenagers need sleep.
My older son and his wife just travelled all the way round the world (literally) to get to Hong Kong for my 65th birthday party.
I did something right star star
