Hi,

Just to be really picky, Shed is no longer Shed. Its now Sofa. Really!

Also I think The Moon Under Water deserves a cameo mention, as it is allegedly the largest pub in Europe. Even if it isn't, it is still pretty damned big!

And what about the Northern Quarter? The Beerhouse, The Marble Arch, The Hogshead, The Smithfield, The Little Pot of Beer, The Queens Arms - that's where I'm off to tonight. Or I notice a hint of the student's eye view - how about the Lass O' Gowrie?

Ooooh, beer! ale

The best pubs around Manchester aren't the ones in the city centre. There are lots of nice ones in Stockport that serve Robbie's (lovely) but that is a bit of a way out. My favouritist pub in the whole world is the Church Inn in Prestwich, just about four miles or so out of town, on a little road just off Bury New Road - and the actual church that it is next to is where they film all the weddings, funerals etc from Coronation Street.

Ooh - The Church Inn - I know it well. I think you'll find the little road is Church Lane (no surprises there, then winkeye ). I was last in there at Christmas - nice ale, well kept, good atmosphere.

Moon under water is getting a bit over the top now security wise.

Me and a friend were turned away at 6pm on a Saturday night for not being a couple. We tried the 'we're gay' line and that didn't work. So they're not only nasty, but homophobic too. However it is till big.

For views on Manchester Pubs, check out the Manchester Pub Cup at http://www.geocities.com/manc_pubs

Current recomendations are Peveril Of The Peak, Bulls Head (piccadilly) and Sinclairs Oyster Bar.

If you visit A479441 you will find links to photos of the Manchester Marrow, the last Manchester h2g2 meetup which took place a couple of months back in (amongst other places) Peveril of the Peak. A good time was had by all! smiley

And while you're at it, why not check out A867396 and pop along to the next one.

Sinclairs is nice as is Sawyers Arms. I like The Knott opposite Deansgate station - it has a good selection of real ales and a decent kitchen. Outside of Manchester The Ostrich in Prestwich is nice and I've hard good things about The Marble Beer House in Chorlton.

I heard that Moon Under Water has the longest bar in Europe. Deansgate makes for a good crawl as long as your avoid pretentious places like The Living Room with ridiculous door staff.

Another quirky place you might like to visit is The Temple, located in a former public toilet on Oxford Road. erm
