Some also have 8 strings, and in the past there was a 7-string variety issued.

The 12 string model is the Grand Stick.
There was a 7 string, monphonic model called the Stick bass.

A search for "Chapman Stick" in any search engine will provide a link to the company's web site. New variations of the stick appear every year or two.

Many people have heard the stick as the bass on a number of songs by Peter Gabriel such as "I Don't Remember."

I am searching for an old friend who was a fantastic stick player.

His name is Jim Lampi (not sure of the spelling) and I have not seen him since the early to mid 80's when he used to play in the wine bar in Gerrards Cross, Bucks. He left to go back to the states I think, and although he put out an album, I cannot find it anywhere.

Any news of Jim or his album would be much appreciated.

I have only fantastic memories of the music he played and I would love to hear it again.
