This is the Conversation Forum for Talking Point: Trial by Jury << Jury Selection Bothers Me People Avoid it... >> Subject: need for people Posted Aug 30, 2003 by crazyhorse   Posting 1 once you start allowing the state to determine who deserves a trial and who does not you are only a short step away from marshall law if only the well educated and wealthy in society try to hold the common folk up to their moral standards without benefit of a jury the conviction rate will go up and as usual the poor will bear the brunt. there needs to be a stopgap and allthough the jury system can fail it is much easier for an arbitrary judgeto be corrupted the more power given to individual judges the easier for justice to be circumvented Conversation list Most of the content on h2g2 is created by h2g2's Researchers, who are members of the public.
