I must object to the writer's assertion that Einstein considered inertia and gravity to be the 'same force'. Nothing could be further from the truth!
Einstein's 'happy thought', explained so well in Dr. Anthony Zee's 'An Old Man's Toy', did result in the equivalency theory mentioned. But, by no means does equivalent mean equal. They are not interchangeable terms.
Einstein made great use of the concept of imagining the effects of gravity under varied circumstances, and gravity on other objects/forces, by 'thinking' of the effects in terms of motion INSTEAD OF under gravity. It was the equivalency that made the thought experiment EQUIVALENT to an undoable gravity experiment.
This should not be allowed any closer to Edited Guide Entry status without rewriting this portion to reflect Einstein's true feelings on the subject! towel
PS: Otherwise, I quite enjoyed it.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Entry, Fords Towel.

Please see my reply to your objection in the thread following the Article. You raised the discussion to a higher level, and you are right, of course, that 'equivalence' is not the same as 'equality', although I never ment to give that impression. As you realize, frequent digressions to explain every nuance will make any Entry unreadable.
