  |  | You say that about half the male population is called Spyro. I think that should be 'Spiros'.
Excellent article - brought back some nice memories.
Corfu is beautiful and a great holiday choice. There are other things you could have mentioned about Corfu (Gerald Durrell, olive trees) but if you are concentrating on Corfu Town, perhaps not. I believe Corfu Town has the only cricket pitch in Greece, as a consequence of its brief spell under British rule.

  |  | Spyro or Spyros, it's a matter of taste. Greek men have names ending in -os, but when you address them, you drop the s, so it's just as usual to leave the s out when giving the name. As for Spiro or Spyro, that's just transliteration - unfortunately, there is no standard way of transliterating Greek. The method I use leaves the Upsilon as Y rather than translating it to I.
There's another entry on Corfu Island which I'm working on at the moment. It mentions the Durrells and other things.
