What the article omits, is that doing this is quite hard and involved and you want to avoid it as most disposals are heavy, and you will be using weak muscle groups. Here's an alternative: Turn the thing off, and unplug it. Use a torch to see if you can *easily* grab the offending item without slicing your fingers. If not, stick a long (wooden! plastic may break or stick on the blades) broom handle into the unit, and use the leverage to force the blades to rotate one way, and then the other. This will loosen or crush whatever is sticking the blades. Take the broom out. Plug it in and operate it normally for just a few seconds. If it works, you are home free.
