Subject: Trying hard - not always succeeding

I buy organic food whenever possible. It isn't always and local shops don't stock very much. I would never knowingly buy GM foods and feel that there isn't enough research to show that they are safe. Often if it is a choice of buying organic or not buying, I don't buy, but not absolutely always. I buy fairly traded goods where I can. If it's a choice between organic and fairly traded, I go for organic. Where possible, I buy local produce.

I considered setting up an organic food co-op at one time, but decided against it for practical reasons - I didn't think I could give it enough time to make a success of it.

I buy shampoo free of sodium laurenth, etc.

I aim to buy clothing made of organic materials. Here I don't succeed as much as I would like because of lack of choice and expense. I don't buy clothing often in any case. I have enough.

I could buy non leather shoes, but I don't. I like leather shoes.

I recycle paper, glass and tins.

I use energy saving light bulbs.

I didn't use terry nappies. I don't think I could have coped. Life as a single parent was hard enough. I would have liked to have. I sometimes use organic 'feminine products'. I use eco-friendly washing powder.

I use tissues, although I know that hankies are probably more environmentally friendly. I use recycled products where they are available.

I turn my appliances off at the mains when not in use (TV, etc).

I'm not perfect, but I'm doing my best for the environment and to support people to be paid fairly for what they do.
