Being a bit of a lazy so-and-so (and grossly overweight... I wonder if there's a connection), it was always tomorrow, or next month, or in the new year.

Then I found the switch that said 'I *really* want to do something about my health', and flicked it. Unfortunately, the only way I found that switch was because it was located next to the big ol' flashing light marked 'Occasional gripping chest pains'.

Thankfully that seems to have been indigestion, but for a short while I was really scared.

It's early days (like less than a month), but my outlook has completely changed. I *really* want to do something about this. Something seems to be egging me on. Some of the best advice I've seen comes from 'Fitness for Dummies' which I found at my local library. There's a chapter '100 reasons to get fit': not just health, but the social aspects and your *mental* wellbeing.

Personally, I like the thought of all the gadgets I'm gonna get to buy and play with.

So, if you've got here and are thinking 'I might do something', don't 'might'... DO! Don't wait until you *have* to, do it because you *want* to.

But do it sensibly.

I have to agree with you - and good on you for actually starting. Starting is always the worst bit.

I was the same till I realised that if I wanted clothes that fitted I was going to have to go out and buy the next size up - and that wasn't going to happen.

I found moderation was the key for me. If I really craved chocolate and crisps, I found low or lower fat alternatives. Grilling meat and actually eating fresh veg instead of takeaway pizzas helped too :o)

Can't afford any gadgets though :o(

I agree as well. I spent years buying the next size up before I finally decided enough was enough and got on the 'healthy living' trail.

The big stumbling block is always the 'starting' it. After all, it's not easy to do, and the prospect is terribly daunting. It took me years to get started - but I did, and it was worth it all the way.

Absolutely - well done for starting, from someone who's been there, and done it. Keep up the good work, and hang on in there.
