  | | <Rant mode on> Please let there be no more films made so that Americans (or anyone else) can 'recapture' their youth. Recently, Hollywood seems to have run out of ideas completely. Films are made with a 'ready-made' audience:- the people who watched this crap when they were 8 years old. Studios hope that (a) the people who used to watch this stuff will go and see the film, and (b) drag their children with them so that they too can get into the product. Witness Scooby-Doo and its rebirth. <Shudders uncontrollably>. Batman, Spider-Man, Superman etc. etc. These are comic books. I repeat, these are comic books, designed for children. Most adults would be embarressed to be caught reading them, but they can go and see the movies with an easy conscience. Can anyone honestly say that any of these movies have been 'good' films?
The real problem seems to be that Hollywood cannot find any good subjects for filming. Is it just me or are there lots and lots of movies with roman numerals after their names? Any half-arsed success is almost gauranteed to spawn at least a couple of successor films. 'Adams Family Values'. Ugh. <Rant mode off>.
If I absolutely MUST pick a film, then it HAS to be 'Vampire Space Vixens Meet the Wombles'. Don't ask why.

I take exception to that. First of all, most comic books are not necessarily designed for children. They contain complex and adult story lines, and many would be inappropriate for young children. I think that many comic book stories work well in the movies because of the shared visual aspect of the to mediums.
I personally believe that comics, especially in the graphic novel format, are a wonderful form of literature. If you want a good example of this, check out Neil Gaiman's "Stardust". It has been published in novel format, but nothing compares with experiencing the story with Charles Vess's fabulous art work.
