I hadn't realised the development history was so complex. Has your research for this topic covered when did rollerball pens come into existence? Is a rollerball just a ball-point with more normal ink? Off the top of my head, a rollerball was a compromise between the functionality of the biro combined with the fluidity of script produced by a fountain pen. I cant remember the date to be honest though.
