John Rutter is popular here in the States, as well. On February 13, he will conduct, in Carnegie Hall, a concert of his works including the "Feel the Spirit" collection of spirituals, "Psalm 150," and the world premiere of "Mass of the Children." I will have the extreme pleasure of being a part of this concert. It should be a great show.

Rutter is certainly very popular in the US, possibly more so than in the UK, and spends a lot of time in the US. I've sung quite a bit of his stuff in London conducted by him. I'll be singing again in NYC with my London choir in March 2003, not at Carnegie but at the Lincoln Center (and not Rutter but Berlioz, and probably going back to do Britten, another British composer who is well appreciated in the US). Tippett is quite well known in the States, too, and in fact his 'The Mask of Time' had its world premiere in Boston.
