Greetings!

I've had an h2g2 homepage here since '99, back in the day of 5 figure user numbers when Douglas Adams ran the show. I visit much less than I once did (recovering addict) winkeye but am still here, now or then, lurking and occasionally leaping into action. I managed to contribute a couple of entries before disappearing on a rather long lunch for a few years... My expenses claim is pending, but I know just where my towel is.

a coupla months back Diane Abbot returned my letter, and the gist of it was that she also disagrees with the war. My faith in democracy is restored.

Dear Miss Diane Abbott,

the narrow remit of the Hutton Inquiry has led to deep suspicion about its conclusions, and I feel that the new Inquiry into the intelligence leading to the war in Iraq is in danger of being just as flawed.

Please insist that the remit of this inquiry is sufficiently broad to include the political decision making as well as the intelligence that informed it. Its important that it is made public exactly why the government chose to take us to war so that in future we can trust that our armed forces will only be deployed when its absolutely necessary.
