ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Created: 29th April 2004
Not all about me
This is "some about me", all about me might get done when I have a little more time.

I'm Clare, and I live in Wigan near Manchester, I'm currently trying to revise for my A levels and being distracted by this site. Hopefully if I ever get round to doing any revision I'll be off to uni next year studying French and Russian.

I play the clarinet, piano, saxophone and bass guitar (ish) and whatever other instrument I manage to get hold of that day (currently I'm teaching myself the mouth organ). Some other interests are watching rugby league, though I'm kind of being taught to play union - I actually kicked 2 drop goals today, the other 10 attempts rolled along the floor-and anything to do with Russia.

That's about it for now, hope it makes some vague amount of sense,

Clare xxx

Europe just got bigger
May 1, 2004

It's strange when you think about it isn't it? One minute I need a visa to work in Lithuania, then all of a sudden I don't. It would be really off-putting if I had any idea what Lithuania is like or even what language they speak (Lithuanian maybe?)

Seriously though, I'm no economist so I can't comment on whether it's good for the country's wealth, and to be honest, I don't care! What I do care about are people, and cultures and the way life differs across the globe. I just hope that joining Europe won't mean joining the West in its mundane Americanisation of everything we do and say and think. It's not that I have anything against America, I think it's great, but it's Britain and France turning into a mini-America that bugs me.

This European expansion should be an opportunity to open our eyes to a wider world, experience cultures we knew nothing about, learn to speak Lithuanian, eat different foods, meet different people and generally widen our horizons.

That's what it means to me anyway.

Why can't I kick drop goals?
Apr 29, 2004

I kicked 2 today, and one of those was me pointing out that I couldn't do them despite following instructions:

"Look, I've done what you said: hold the ball close to the ground, drop it and kick it and look it doesn't... oh ... it does work"
