Biographical Stuff

MY STUFF

Where I Live: Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
What I Do: Just finished a PhD in Anglo-Celtic relations in early medieval Britain. I am also a lecturer in Management, if that does not sound contradictory.

OTHER PEOPLE'S STUFF

For more historical material have a look at H2G2 Historical Society which is an excellent page with a pile of links compiled by the incomparable Guide historian and social critic Mustapha.

There is an excellent Scottish site at Dalriada - Highlands of Scotland maintained by the Guide Ace Taipan - Jack of Hearts whoes page is worth a visit for the dancing baby alone. Taipan is also author of the newly-approved entry: Important Events in the History of Scotland

For excellent social discussion and commentary, ask the excessively learned Walter of Colne whoes page abounds with interesting forum links. Walter is an expert on most historical topics but especially Roman and late medieval history. Don't get him started on the Tudors, unless you really want to! (He will feign modesty about all this!) His knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, Tasmania is also terribly noteworthy.

There is a variety of interesting stuff to be found at the H2G2 University Page as well as an opportunity for those inclined to get one of those groovy badges on their space! And for people who want to find their way around the Guide just that little bit better, have a look at the H2G2 Library and Museum for a floor plan.

Some off-the-Guide sites for anyone who wants more hardcore medieval history are:

The "Anglo-Saxon Charters on the Web" Page: Anglo-Saxon Charters

The most excellent "Medieval Sourcebook" - a huge collection of primary sources, full text and all - maintained by Fordham University: Medieval Sourcebook

There is also the well-produced "Labyrinth -Resources for Medieval Studies" site - another collection of primary sources, and links - maintained by Georgetown University: Labyrinth Resources for Medieval Studies

The homepage of Prof Simon Keynes, Head of the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Cambridge, has a huge list of links to all types of pages, from libraries to sourcebooks to bibliographies to other historical societies. Well worth a look: Simon Keynes Homepage

Well ... here it is ... the first entry, and I am having a mild anxiety attack about what to say. Kept pressing the Don't Panic button, but that seemed to be for something else ... only felt more anxious.
I heard Douglas Adams on the radio today in Hobart, Australia (I don't actually think he was in Hobart ... but he was definitely speaking), in which he announced this new H2G2 project. So World ... expect a raft of new entries from Australians!!
I'm in Hobart by the way ... exciting place ... (really)
My mind has gone blank and my brain is starting to leak out my right ear ... best stop.
