ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Created: 27th June 1999
Natski's humble address to the assembled universe.
Welcome to my quaint little corner. I'm Natski, which makes me sound like cheap Estonian vodka (or maybe I'm being hypercritical). Actually, I do have a normal name, but I'm hardly going to admit to that. Am I?

I live in a little stone house with an outdoor toilet. I've recently decided to challenge myself to see how long I can make one tank of petrol last, so I walk or ride my bike everywhere. My record is five weeks. But it's a bitch in the rain.

I like to think of myself as eclectic (because it's more interesting than admitting the truth). I'm learning the clarinet. I'm writing a novel. I'm avoiding washing the dishes. I have too many lemons. I play softball in 40 degree heat in the summer. I have curly hair and big feet and a scar just inside my lip from where my brother threw a piece of firewood at me when I was four.

I can't think of a single exciting thing to do for the big Millennium New Year's Eve (and I'm not even going to get into the argument about whether it is the change of millennium or not).

I have good teeth.

Shoes
Feb 24, 2000

My friend Justine called me today to say those two magical words: "shoe sale". My favourite shoe store (let's call it Bob's (because that's its name)) is having a big sale. I dropped everything immediately (of course!) and headed down to my idea of heaven. I know it's cliche, but I couldn't help myself. Ended up buying a very nice pair of Italian sandals at half price. And I'm pretty pleased with myself too (can you tell?) smiley

Melbourne
Feb 7, 2000

I've just returned from three days in weird old Melbourne. Trust my luck to be there for one of the hottest nights on record (all that sweating made me so dehydrated I'm all crispy). Other than that little weather thing, Melbourne was even more glorious than on my last visit - or maybe it was just all the champagne. smiley

Serves me right
Jan 23, 2000

I should have known better. All this complaining about the heat has taken effect, and now we're experiencing even weirder weather for this time of year . . . yep, RAIN. It's the wettest January on record. We've had buckets of it, and half the state is flooded. The downside is that the thunderstorms have been keeping me awake all night. The upside is that I don't have to worry about watering the garden (not that I did anyway, but at least now I don't have to worry about the garden dying).

At this rate, I'm expecting snow in February.

HOT!!!
Dec 29, 1999

Whewwwwwww!! I can't remember it being this hot for this long in December. It seems we're having our February heatwave early this year - damn Y2K seems to be messing with everything!

It's going to be 38C for the next three days before plummetting to a mere 35C . . . and it's been over 35 for the last six days in a row.

I'm such a wimp when it comes to sustained hot weather. The days I can handle, but those hot sweaty nights . . . no good for me - I wake up very grumpy sadface

Shortlived glory
Nov 16, 1999

Quokkas is currently on the most neglected list. That's a bit tragic isn't it? I guess I can stop being excited at having my very own guide entry now.

I don't think I even got fifteen minutes of fame. Damn that Warhol.
