ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Created: 21st June 1999
Superheroing on H2G2 since 1999 - that was the last century!

Hi, Unknown Visitor, the story of Vestboy has been told in full in the Hotel Bar so if you want a word by word account you need to go there. (Starts at Post 442 and continues for a long while)

For those of you that can't be faffed to go there here's a short symnopsis. Born of a single parent in communist Eastern Europe he was separated from his twin sister at birth. She went to live with a British diplomatic family and had a wealthy upbringing. Vestie stayed with his mum and moved to England for safekeeping.

Vestie's mum, who had great skill in all things using threads, needles and material found she had been given an unusual gift of some top secret ex military laboratory fabric.

She made a vest for her son and he, over time, learnt the secret of scratch and sniffology. The power of releasing the zeitgeist of a smell and bringing strong emotions into play in other people.

Vestie continues to collect stains on the vest so that he can scratch them later to deal with unusual situations.

Of course, Unknown Visitor, this has meant that the vest has had to grow over time and now reaches beyond floor level to drag along like Miss Haversham's dirty and worn wedding dress.

Oh, and if you are wondering 4+(5x6)+6+2=42

Varifocals - through the lens darkly

Don't say you should have gone to "Specsavers!", because I did. (UK advert reference, for non UK readers)
Now I am trying to get used to glasses that seem to have 75% of their area set to "blur" when I am trying to look at things.
I either have to dip my head (and multiply my chins) to look into the distance or raise my head (and look snooty) when looking at my computer screen.
I may need to get a longer nose fitted to accommodate the repositioning of the specs.

Holiday to Cornwall
Aug 27, 2009

My appearances on the site may be reduced drastically over the next week as I and some of my family will be going to Cornwall to live in a caravan.
We're going to Rick Stein's eatery in Padstow on Saturday so I'm hoping I'm not allergic to his cooking.

New job
Aug 26, 2009

Woohoo! I've just been told that I have been successful at interview. Redundancy no longer looms and I'm going to be doing something that I will enjoy much more... I hope. I will only be moving a short distance (two floors straight down as the crow burrows).

Playing with my french horn
Aug 26, 2009

Life becomes much more interesting as you lose your hearing.

I was very impressed when I heard a young person say, "I'm going to play with my French Horn!" when actually what was said was "I'm going to play with my friend, Shaun!"

I'm not one of those, for sure. I've just had a tooth out at the dentist (upper right pre molar roots - following the tooth being broken due to neglect).
My dentist is very good and I have a lot of confidence in her which helps. I'm working on my relaxation technique - which helps a lot - while I'm in the chair.

Mouth is numb so if I type with a lithp pleathe forgive me.
